A Mirage of Luxury; Toya Devasya Is a Tourist Trap Disguised as a Resort
If you’re considering visiting Toya Devasya during your trip to Bali, let me save you the trouble: don’t. This place is a masterclass in overpromising and underdelivering — a garish illusion of relaxation that quickly devolves into a chaotic, overpriced mess. What’s advertised as a luxurious natural hot spring retreat is, in reality, little more than a glorified public pool with a price tag that insults your intelligence.
Let’s start with the facilities. The pools? Lukewarm at best, with suspiciously cloudy water that makes you wonder if cleanliness is merely a suggestion here. The sulfuric “natural” hot spring feel is more chemical than volcanic. Any notion of serenity evaporates the moment you're surrounded by screaming crowds, slippery surfaces, and the grating soundtrack of pumping house music blasting through tinny speakers.
Then there’s the service, or rather, the stunning lack of it. Staff members range from indifferent to completely absent. If you have a problem, prepare to solve it yourself or enjoy being ignored. Simple requests like towels, locker keys, a clear breakdown of fees — are met with shrugs or unapologetic confusion. The level of disorganization borders on comical.
Value for money? Laughable. Toya Devasya is priced like a luxury spa but delivers the ambience of a chaotic waterpark. Everything from entry tickets to food and drink is aggressively overpriced. The food is bland, the drinks watered down, and the entire experience feels designed to squeeze every last rupiah out of you with zero regard for actual quality.
Hygiene is another disaster entirely. The changing areas are wet, cramped, moldy, and poorly ventilated — more locker room than wellness retreat. Toilets are in a state that makes public restrooms in gas stations seem luxurious by comparison.
And now, let’s talk about something truly unforgettable: the onslaught of flies. Yes, flies. Everywhere. Swarming your face, your food, your poolside towel. They crawl on plates at the restaurant and hover relentlessly over anything remotely edible or drinkable. It's not a minor nuisance it’s a constant, maddening presence that turns every moment into a battle for sanity. No amount of citronella or waving them away works. It’s clear that pest control is either nonexistent or woefully ineffective.
Even the location, which should be this resort’s saving grace, perched on the edge of beautiful Lake Batur with views of the volcano, is utterly squandered. Instead of embracing the natural landscape, the resort clutters the grounds with plastic "Instagram spots" and oversized branding that cheapen the entire environment.
And here’s the kicker: you might read glowing reviews online and think, Surely it can’t be that bad. Think again. The glaring discrepancy between the rave reviews and the actual experience raises serious suspicion. Many reviews seem artificially inflated or outright fabricated, possibly written by people who’ve never set foot in the resort. The overly enthusiastic tone and lack of specific detail should be a red flag to anyone familiar with how paid or incentivized reviews work. It's either that or there’s a parallel universe Toya Devasya that I missed entirely.
Final verdict: Toya Devasya is a gaudy, overpriced tourist trap that thrives on curated hype and misleading marketing. The only thing “natural” about this place is the disappointment you’ll feel once you realize you’ve been duped. Add in a swarm of flies, apathetic staff, dirty facilities, and ludicrous prices — and you’ve got one of Bali’s most regrettable destinations. Save your time, your money, and your dignity. Go...
Read moreI didn’t enjoy the place. At first glance when you arrive you might say “wow, what a big and colourful resort with hot spring, spa and water park” but then you start noticing issues:
the facilities are very deteriorated and not taken care of at all. Broken or rusty/rotten decoration, hundreds of dead flies 🪰🪰🪰🪰 literally HUNDREDS, at the big pool 🏊♂️ and dirty hot spring areas. I felt seriously concerned about the hygiene standards of this place. Needless to say I didn’t want to eat anything cooked here. Staff English is very poor and they are very unhelpful. This is an issue because ONE: I paid a high entrance fee of 300K IDR for rather old and unpleasant facilities, and TWO: for the price paid and the touristy nature of the resort, with almost all guests being foreigners, it would be EXPECTED that staff English is much better. In addition, my entrance ticket included access to the slides. Well, to my disappointment, the gentleman on the tallest slide told me I can not use it because it is for couples (2 ppl) only and I was 1 person. What the h*?!? Finally, and most of all. This is very tourist oriented and commercial place, it doesn’t feel like a natural thermal resort to relax and unwind at all. It’s super commercial and full of restaurants bar and artifacts made only to suck the money from tourist wallet.
Definitely NOT RECOMMENDED. Such a big waste of money
Update: I asked to kindly speak to the manager of the place about my experience to provide constructive feedback and claim the right to a refund -specially because the ticket price is inclusive of water slides as shown in attached picture, and I was banned from using even the ones active and with supervisor for adults- but they replied me with a flat NO, refusing to allow me to speak to manager, and also refusing to to consider any form of refund even partial. Not even a drink or consumption to apologise for the...
Read moreGot recommended to this place for hot spring, but it's a tourist trap! The minute we walked it, i felt like walking out straight away! The place is dated and in such a bad state. We paid 300IDR per pax, even for my son, who is 10yo but as long as they are above 85cm, its adult pricing. There were alot of locals. The signage inside was falling apart and bad paint job repairs. Service was not any better. The counter staff could handle very basic English. Staff inside struggle with basic English. Showers were male and female only, and lockers are inside the shower area. It is very difficult if you are travelling as a family. The shower does not have any hooks or areas to hang ur items. The shower doesn't seem busy for the high number of locals in the facilities. However, it is wet and dirty inside. They have only 1 or 2 staff watching the area but many staff in the dining areas. We were only told the whole place is cashless when we were right inside collecting our towels. We didnt realise that we had to add money into the wristband that was casually put onto my husband's wrist. And when we realise that, we were told the top-up counter is all the way back somewhere. We didn't bother as we were annoyed as it is and didn't want to spend 1 more cent in this place. Water was nice and warm in more of the pool areas. I'm not sure why they advertise this as hot springs and healing when they have loud music pumping around. The water slides were rusted and not maintained at all. Safety staff were barely visible. The safety staff at the top of the slide was sitting there looking quite jaded. There was no way of monitoring if the person prior had done with the course of slide, so there was no clash with the next person. There was no water flowing through the long slide down, and my boys were stuck in the middle for a while. Float situation was first come, first serve, and there weren't many...
