When we arrived with the night bus early in the morning we could already check in and also got a bed to rest a little more, which was very convenient and very friendly! We actually chose to stay there because we read that Paulus, the owner, is a tourist guide, and were hoping that we could attend a funeral ceremony together with him. Unfortunately he was busy with other guests and directed us to another friend of him. He could barely speak English, so it was a pity that we couldn’t learn too much about the backgrounds. In the end he brought us to an overpriced touristy restaurant… Paulus helped us organise a driver to Ampana, which was very nice and made things easy for us. When we gave the contact of the driver to other travellers we found out, that the driver charges less than we payed, so probably Paulus took some of the money, that he said that the ride would cost, for his self… The house has very thin walls and it can be very loud (rain, karaoke bar, muezzin), so just keep this in mind, if you’re having a light sleep. It’s also very hot in the upper floor. Nevertheless they made our stay very easy as they organised scooters for us, organised the (not so good) guide for visiting a ceremony, organised the (little overpriced) drive to Ampana… And the family...
Read moreWe absolutely loved our stay at the Purabarang Family House with Pauluss and his family. The accomodation is clean and spacious. We had a room with a private bathroom with shower and toilet. Breakfast is included and is so tasty (the best banana pancakes we had). There is also very good Wifi available.||||We truly enjoyed staying here and ended up staying for around a week. The town is a 15 min walk from the property. Pauluss can assist with renting a scooter if needed.||||We also spent 3 full days with Pauluss exploring the area. Pauluss is very friendly, efficient and is fluent in English. He provided us with so much information about the Toraja culture and their traditions. We were also lucky to see both a wedding and funeral ceremony. We can't thank Pauluss enough for his service, hospitality and all the information we received. He really is amazing and we felt so at home with him. The accomodation is less expensive than other options in town, but you get so much more if you stay here.||||We highly recommend this place and would love to return again in the future.||||Thank you...
Read moreReally does feel like you are being welcomed to stay at a local person's home, living symbioticly in harmony. The family and children are adorable they are so accommodating to our requests for breakfast. We asked for nasi goreng and omelet no problem! Bought them coconut milk to switch the milk for pancakes it was not an issue at all. We were lucky that no one was going to occupy our room right after we were leaving so we were able to do late check out. The big room with a private bathroom and balcony is the way to go. I feel like I could have stayed there for way longer and extended my holiday in Toraja just because of how comfortable I felt. The last 3 minutes of the road leading to the homestay needs a bit of a patchwork, but then nothing Papa Pauluss can...
