I have been staying in Tentrem Yogyakarta several times, And it is always giving the best experience to me.

Front Office, The check-in process was very smooth, and I always like the welcome drink. They served traditional jamu and you can choose different kinds of jamu.

Room The room is VERY spacious, if you choose for a single bed. It is soooo big that you won't fall if you roll around. It is the biggest hotel bed that I ever experienced. There's also welcome snacks in the room, it is a traditional snack and in the refrigerator also free served drinks that is refreshing. Every night, what amazed me is they prepared the bed for you to sleep in and put glass and water bottle beside the table. I have been to a lot of 5 stars hotels and only certain luxury hotel gave this kind of experience. They also cleaned the room well, Mr. Utta & Mr. Bagas were the room attendant at the time I stayed. Thank you so much for keeping the room clean!

Service I had laundry service late at 10 PM, I called the service and less than 5 minutes they are already in front of the room to pick up the laundry. I asked if I can pay in the room, and not too long the front office team (Ms. Angel) came to the room to help on the payment. Very fast and very convenient. The laundry was also very clean and prepared inside my room by the time I came back the next day.

Food (Kayu Manis Restaurant) This is the main restaurant, they combined local food and also international food. The variety of food they served are great, so you can experience the local food even in the hotel. They also served unique flavors of Ice cream, such as Tolak Angin Ice Cream, which you must try!

Food (Summer Palace) This is another restaurant in the hotel, it is a chinese restaurant near the pool. I must say this is one of the best chinese restaurant that I ever eat in Indonesia. I lived in Jakarta and have tried a lot of chinese restaurant, but Summer Palace foods are the best! I have been here multiple times and it never disappoint me!

Pool & Gym The pool is good and clean, they really manage the cleanliness of the pool. And after you finish swimming, they also provide you with a plastic for your wet swimsuit! Very prepared! For the Gym, it is one of the best in Yogyakarta that I visited. It is a huge one! It is also very crowded as the gym is also open for membership outside of hotel guests. But overall the crowd won't make you feel like you have to wait to use any of the equipment. The best of all is the jacuzzi, they have a very big jacuzzi, probably about 3x5 meters and with the song they play in the jacuzzi area it feels so peaceful! Very refreshing to experience!

Playground For the kids, they also have a quite huge playground compared to other hotels. My daughter really loves to play in the playground and not just playing but they also have activities like drawing and other things that keeps the children entertained.

Conference Room I held a workshop in Tentrem recently, and by far it is one of the best service compared to other hotels. The banquet team that stand by at the beginning was not just one person, but they really thoroughly prepared from the sound, projector, room setting and also the coffee breaks. Snacks at the coffee breaks were also very delicious, and what amazed me they proactively ask to serve the coffee breaks into each person's table as we have workshop nonstop. Very great service and...

‼️ This is a straight-up honest review. I’m not a hotel critic, influencer, or a paid KOL. Just a regular guest, calling it as I see it.‼️

Room: The room was absolutely spotless, a generous 50 sqm, complete with a balcony. The bathroom was spacious, with a separate closet area and shower. There’s just one thing — why no liquid hand soap with a pump? A small touch, but noticeable.

The bathroom amenities were fully stocked for five-star standards: hair dryer, cotton buds, hair cap, sanitary plastic bag, comb, toothpaste, and toothbrush — all neatly arranged.

⸻

Breakfast: Breakfast was a feast. There were stations for everything: traditional jenang, fresh juices, Bangka-style noodles, chicken soup, beef soup, a full Indonesian buffet selection, egg station, gudeg station, traditional jajanan pasar sweets, drinks, and even a Sidomuncul Traditional Herbal Drink station. Oh — and a self-service ice cream machine, too!

🚨🚨🚨Dear Pastry Chef One crucial thing that I found disappointing for a five-star property: the croissant.

The dough was tough and chewy, not crunchy at all. The texture was about on par with a 7 Days packaged pastry — almost like something frozen and ready-to-bake. Sorry to say. As far as the croissants I’ve had in France, a proper croissant should be buttery, flaky, and have that perfect crunch. Hard to explain — but if you know, you know. This should be common sense from the R&D team.

The gudeg added a nice local touch with selections from Gudeg Ibu Kota and Song Djie. It was just okay — not bad, but since it wasn’t Tentrem’s own cooking, it lacked that signature homemade soul.

Oh, and the Bakmi Jawa (Javanese noodles) was clearly adjusted for broader national tastes. The seasoning wasn’t as bold as it usually is in Wonosari-style dishes. It was missing that deep punch of chicken powder flavor. Not bad at all, but just standard.

Overall for Breakfast: 9/10.

⸻

Swimming Pool: The pool was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The chlorine wasn’t too strong but kept the water fresh. Hot showers and toilets were available nearby. Two guards were stationed every day for safety. Just make sure to bring proper swimwear — they do enforce it!

⸻

Check-in Process: For a five-star hotel with a check-in time starting at 3:00 PM, I checked in at 3:38 PM and found only one receptionist on duty. A second staffer arrived a few minutes later, but there was already a small queue forming. On the plus side, the welcome drink — a traditional herbal jamu — was delicious!

⸻

Overall: Tentrem was great. It’s a true five-star hotel that nails hospitality, comfort, and food — easily one of the best in Jogja in my opinion.

Value for Money: 9.8/10

⸻

End Note: Tentrem checks all the big boxes, and with a few small tweaks (and a serious croissant upgrade), it could easily rival the best city...

I was having great experience in Tentrem Jogjakarta and Semarang. I also put excellent rating on breakfast staffs and teams. However, I think I need to re-think again and again after two bad experiences from front office (receiptionist) teams.

Firstly, it was happening in June 2022 when my friend (who is the membership customer of Tentrem) booked 2 rooms for me and her. She requested the room to be side by side. We arrived in hotel very late night since we have to come from road trip from Jakarta. The receiptionist provide us the side by side rooms as requestes. On the next day, when I was in Mangunan (more than 1 hrs from Tentrem), I received a WA from FO team, asking me to move all of my luggage to other rooms since my existing rooms was already booked by wedding group. They need me to come quickly othewise the team will wrap up my luggage and move it. There are some private luggage that I dont want if other people wrap it. My friend and me complaint, why they dont give us the “free” rooms since the beginning. It was destroy all of our business plans thay I need to go back hotel, just to move my luggage. It was very disappointed.

I still try to put my trust again by having booking reservation using my membership on June 2022 for my holiday in 10 July 2022. I have put the request since June that I need room with Merapi view for holiday purposes. I thought the team must have plan all request and anticipate of the previous guess c/o late. I noted that the c/i time is on 15.00. I came to the hotel today at 14.00. The receiptions told me that the room will be available 45 min again and they will give is a wa chat to inform. I enjoy the welcoming drink at pool bar. After 45 min, I have not received the WA, I decide to come to receiptionist again since my mother need to have a rest soon. Surpraisingly, The receiptionist tell me that the room is not available yet. I asked her when it will be available. She was trying to phone someone but no response. I asked again why your team giving us such a 45 min period to wait if the hotel can not ensure the availability. Another disappointment statment from the receiptionist is when she said “the one who inform you the 45 min is my friend, not me”. I said to her, that you are all team, why you guys dony have the same standardized service level. And just blame each other in front of your membership customer??? It is not 5 stars hotel service that I know.

Actually, I still have one day booking reservation in tentrem. However, those 2 bad experiences successfully made my bad feelings towards this hotel. Hopefully, the management can consider and recheck again the booking system plan and service level of your receiptionist. And hopefully, it will not...

The quality of hotel infrastructure element is superb : 1. design 2. material 3. room size 4. facilities (pool, restaurant, playground etc) But the hotel lacks fundamental services that makes guest (me for this case), feel uncomfortable : 1. playground operation : a. standard operating procedure of playground anywhere is using socks when play (same with hotel's playground), me and my son forgot to bring those. Staff said that usually they provide socks, and sell it to parents who forgot to bring socks like me, but at that time the stocks is empty. So, i ask my assistant to find and bring socks to playground, so me and my son can play (i follow the procedure). After 30 mins waiting, i get the socks and play with my son at the playground. b. after 15 mins of playing, then there are 3 people came WITHOUT USING ANY SOCKS, and the staff politely said that's ok (this is happenning until playground closed at 5pm) c. Why the hotel staff treat people differently? (See point 1.a and 1.b). Guest is paying millions rupiah per day, and yet (so called 5 stars) hotel treats people differently. 2. room facility : a. on second day staying at hotel, i need iron to tidying up some clothes, but i can't find it, so i called room service and at the call twice they said the iron is available at our room (but we can't find it). Finally the staff came to our room with bringing the iron i asked, but still asked to go to inside our room and checked the iron (???) and they can't find it as well. b. from point 2.a we knew that the staff is not checking room's facility after guest before us checked out and turn out that there is one facility is missing. 3. pool facility : a. Hot shower on the pool corner is not working, only cold water is working. b. from 3.a we knew that staff is not checking some facility properly. "Tentrem" is a word in Javanese that have specific meaning, which is peaceful/comfort, but from my experience the hotel is not live it's name to the fullest, not even half. So unfortunate for so called 5 stars hotel.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Tentrem Yogyakarta, and I can confidently say it's one of the best hotels I've experienced. From the moment I arrived, the impeccable service and warm hospitality stood out. The staff are incredibly attentive and go above and beyond to ensure every guest has a comfortable and memorable stay. The rooms are spacious, elegantly designed, and equipped with all modern amenities. The attention to detail in the decor and comfort is evident, making it a perfect blend of luxury and coziness. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the housekeeping service keeps the rooms spotless. The hotel boasts several dining options, each offering delicious and diverse cuisine. The breakfast buffet is particularly noteworthy, with a wide array of local and international dishes that cater to all tastes. The fresh, high-quality ingredients and the beautiful presentation make each meal a delight. The facilities at Hotel Tentrem are top-notch. The spa and wellness center provide a serene escape with a variety of treatments that leave you feeling rejuvenated. The pool area is beautifully maintained and offers a great place to relax and unwind. There are also well-equipped fitness facilities for those who wish to keep up with their workout routines. One of the highlights of my stay was the exceptional location of the hotel. It is conveniently situated close to popular tourist attractions, yet it offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. This balance makes it an ideal choice for both leisure and business travelers. In summary, Hotel Tentrem Yogyakarta exceeded my expectations in every way. The combination of luxurious accommodations, outstanding service, and excellent facilities makes it a standout hotel in Yogyakarta. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional stay in this beautiful city.
