Pondok Cabe Bistro is a two floor restaurant at Jalan C. Simanjuntak, Terban, Yogyakarta, not far to the South of Gadjah Mada University campus. It offers numerous traditional as well as popular foods and beverages. Customers may sit on high chairs or on the floor (the Javanese lesehan style). Yesterday I and my wife stopped here for lunch, to find a large but gloomy hall, while the 2nd floor was not available. I had a package consisting of crispy fried catfish, a square fried egg (called Spongebob Lol), rice, a hot tea, raw vegetables (lalap) and hot chilli sauce. I am sorry that I have to give you a bad review. I came as a walk-in customer when there was 3 buses full of school kids having a lunch. I sat in the chair, not even be greeted by the staffs, and I waited for almost 30 minutes without any attention from the staffs. Eventually I came into one of the staffs in front of the restaurant and asked for the menu. Only after that she gave me the menu for me. But sadly my appetite had already gone.

The place is pretty spacious, having a floor-seating section as well as table-chair seating. It's designed more for large group dining, so not suitable if you're looking for a quiet, intimate and perhaps romantic dining experience. The large space, no aircon, large crowds, the noise level, etc. are not an issue if you're after tasty, affordable food, especially as a group.
