This was our third time staying at this hotel though our last visit was 7 years ago and we found our 7 night stay (with 2 grown up children) to be a bit disappointing. The hotel is very well located in terms of its access to the ski slopes which are easily accessible only 30 meters in front of the entrance. We were on a HB package. Dinner was very good and they have an impressive selection of buffet items which we enjoyed. Service during dinner can be improved. The waiters serving us were serving too many tables and we often felt that it was difficult getting their attention. We did not like the fact that water was not included and we had to pay extra for it.||Breakfast was disappointing. Quite a limited offering for a 4 star superior hotel. Breakfast seams more like what you would expect from a 2-3 star hotel. We like to eat fruit for breakfast and there was no cut fruit at all only whole fruits like clementines apples, bananas that you need to park for yourself. On most of the morning some of the fruit would run out quite quickly. The staff would say that there is no more clementines (or bananas) and then when you were about to leave suddenly more came. They charge €3 extra for a tiny glass of freshly squeezed orange juice which is unacceptably small (less than 100cc). There are only hard boiled pre-made (cold) eggs and scrambled eggs (buffet style) and hard boiled eggs. No effort to make any fresh breakfast items. No omelets or other egg offering. The have pancakes but they are always made in huge batches and brought in cold from the kitchen. Nothing made on the spot. They have a strange toaster that works very bad. Service in breakfast is terrible. The coffee they serve takes forever to come. Lots of waiters around but service is very disorganized and inefficient. On 1/2 of the mornings the coffee we ordered never arrived and we had to order it 2 times from 2 different waiters. Waiters are not assigned a particular table so you always try to look for someone to notice you to order coffee and the feeling we had was that they would avoid eye contact and not notice you unless you aggressively called them. Coffee was made in low quality cafeteria style coffee machines not a proper espresso machine you would expect to have in Italy and so the coffee was quite bad. They hotel should invest in a couple of good quality large espresso machines which is a real basic in Italy. They have a machine like that in the bar but they don’t use it for breakfast customers. The selection the breakfast buffet was quite limited. The overall feeling we had was that the hotel management is a bit cheep and does not want to spend money on providing a decent breakfast experience. Same experience we had in regards to the room amenities and to the fact that the hotel does not provide any bottled water to the guests. Since there is also no store nearby you end up paying extra for bottled water both in the room and during dinner. ||The internet service throughout the hotel works very badly. If you are lucky, you need to log-in and put your password anew every 59 minutes. Often you get kicked out and need to log in even before the end of the hour. This drove us crazy throughout our stay especially since the cell reception was not great in our room. I think the hotel should invest in a more user friendly internet access system one that you can use continually. ||Our family room on the 5th floor had a bad smell problem coming from the bathroom on the top level next to the only bedroom. The bad smell came from the sewerage system. We complained about it daily in the reception and the hotel staff sent people to try to resolve it but the problem was never resolved and we suffered from the bad smell throughout our stay. On our 5th day we were offered to change room (they wanted to give our stinky room to other guests that were coming on that day and offered to move us to another room) but we were too tired to pack and unpack after a whole day of skiing and decided to just live with it. I was very disappointed that the management of the hotel did not offer us any compensation for our discomfort - not even a free drink at the bar or anything. As I said - really cheep management style. We did not feel at all appreciated as returning guests and felt taken for granted and...
Read moreWe go to the Campiglio ski resort each year and this is the second time we have stayed here, because we love the and the flexibility offered by ski-in / ski-out as it means more time on the slopes, no fighting to get parked and no long trudges up the mountain each day. They also have a ski shop in the basement which means you can get any rentals you might need without leaving the hotel.||||The quality of accommodation and friendliness of staff remained very high, just as we remembered, but one thing that has improved head and shoulders beyond the last time is the quality of the food.||||I’ve stayed in several hotels in the area and the food is typically OK. That’s all. It usually doesn’t matter because you’re active all day and just want to eat. But not here – we found ourselves getting really excited about the menu for that day. The selection was amazing, really high quality and absolutely delicious, and the staff loved helping us to understand what was on the menu, even when struggling with the language barrier.||||There is no doubt that this is an extremely challenging time for hotels, but that never came across and all staff were brilliant. In particular I would like to call out Andrea on the front desk who very patiently helped us arrange return Covid tests and several other issues that were well beyond his remit, and Giovanni in the bar who took the time to prepare several wonderful masterpiece cocktails and present them to us each time like a formal unveiling!||||We’ll definitely be...
Read moreThis is the second time we have stayed at the Carlo Magno. I have never written a holiday review before but on this occasion, feel compelled to do so. This resort and hotel have to be one of the best kept secrets in terms of european skiing and long may that be the case. The hotel is understated, provides everything you would wish for and exudes warmth and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. The staff are extremely helpful and do all they can to ensure your stay is memorable. Not that many english accents, which I view as an absolute bonus and most of the clientele are italian families. The food at all times of the day is superb and anyone who comments differently must have an over-inflated opinion of their own importance. The skiing is great for groups where there might be a range of abilities and there is plenty to keep everyone entertained. The mountain restaurants offer fantastic value for money, particularly when compared to our french/swiss neighbours. All in all, our stay was wonderfully and typically italian - they just seem to instinctively get the important things right. Stylish, family oriented, excellent customer care and service and personal touches that leave you feeling delighted that you chose here and not one of the 'bigger name' resorts. As much as I wish the hotel/resort every future success, equally I hope it remains a hidden gem and retains everything that made our...
