La Maison des Vignerons is a lovely rustic B&B in a fantastic setting of a small village at the foothills of the Alps. The village has numerous stone buildings, many centuries old with some dating from Roman times. La Maison des Vignerons is in a restored stone house and has all the conveniences of modernity while keeping the charm of history. Lea, the proprietress of the B&B, oversaw the restoration and her careful and tasteful hand can be seen everywhere. The place is immaculate and welcoming. Rooms are comfortable and quiet with en suite bathroom. The breakfast room is welcoming and Lea presents a delicious and generous breakfast including her homemade cakes and yogurt and a selection of local meats. You can sit and rest and view the fantastic scenery; you can hike the local trails; or you can easily drive or take the bus into Aosta and enjoy this Italian Alpine town. Lea is very knowledgeable about the local area, its history and how to enjoy the contemporary offerings. She is a gracious hostess and one is reluctant to leave the peace offered by the village and...
Read moreThis very pleasant B&B is actually not in Donnas, but in the village of Grand Vert on the other side of the Dora Baltea, a 20mins walk into town. However, Donnas itself is a small town with not much happening so it makes no odds. Proprietor Leah, aided by various extended family members, clearly works very hard to make this a special spot, and she can communicate in French or English as well if needs be. If you are making a reservation, ask for a 1st (as opposed to second) floor room – these have little balconies and proper windows. In mid June this year it was very hot, and the lack of air con was a disappointment, but guests have free use of the shady seated garden – including bringing a picnic super if you wish. I think she does evening meals on request. No Wi-fi, and at the time of writing she was unable to take credit cards. If you’re an especially trouble-free guest you « might » get a little present...
