Hotel Flora Alpina — Hotel in Gressoney-Saint-Jean

Been going on our annual ski trip to Gressoney for many years now and we have always stayed at Flora Alpina. If you’re looking for glitz, glamour, and ‘apres ski’ then Gressoney is not for you but if you are looking for great skiing on very quiet pistes then Gressoney is the place to go. |Flora Alpina is not ‘ski in - ski out’ as it is situated on the edge of the main ski area but there is an excellent regular ski bus service (bus stop right outside the hotel). There is an excellent ski equipment store room (with great heated boot bars).|Rooms are simple but very comfortable and warm. Beds are really very comfortable and en-suite shower rooms are excellent.|Evening meals are great - maybe too much food - so you won’t go hungry!|The hotel is family run by Peter, Heidi, and Arthur who all work very hard to provide wonderful service. We recently returned to the Flora Alpina and spent 3 nights. The proprietor was as friendly and helpful as ever and greeted warmly although it is some years since our last visit. The rooms are spacious and have character, the staff are efficient and friendly. ||||There is a good choice at breakfast with plenty of fruit and good breads. The dinners offer excellent Italian food at a very sensible price; we particularly appreciate the salad bar and fruit on offer every night. The prices for wine and other drinks are very reasonable. ||||If you prefer not to drive up there is a very good bus service - the stop is right outside the hotel. ||||We are fans of Gressoney and like the sense of tradition and the fact that it has remained unspoilt whereas many French resorts have become overpriced and glitzy. We recently stayed here two nights. This is a wonderful hotel and the setting overlooking the lake is beautiful. Our stay was reasonably priced since it was the off season and we were up in a garrett room with slanted ceilings. we did have a lake view. the room was comfortable and clean. The staff was pleasant but English speakers were few. I don't mind this except when we had a problem getting online and when we wanted to be picked up from the ferry landing. Breakfast was ok. Food was pricey for dinner but prety good. If you want to get to lucerne - it's not easy. We took the ferry, which was a pleasant ride but cost 43 francs each round trip; their van took us to the ferry and picked up.
