On retrospect, I wish I stayed longer at the Lemon House! This is really the perfect B&B if you're into outdoor, active holidays in Sardinia. The B&B itself is situated in a very small town (really hard to get to if you don't have a car) which doesn't have very much (there were literally no dinner options, though there is a small supermarket) and requires you to drive to the next nearby town (about 10-15mins) if you want dinner. If you have your own stove, you can cook yourself a meal on the rooftop but you are not allowed to use the kitchen (italy b&b rules apparently).||||The B&B is clean, and comfortable. Riky is the perfect host and is super knowledgable about climbing (he bolts the routes in the area). The folks who stay at this B&B also tend to be active, outdoorsy people who share similar interests as yourself...so great place to meet other like-minded people! There are guide books for nearly everything in the area, and if you ask nicely, Riky may also lend you climbing gear. :)||||I'd say this is a really good base for folks who enjoy outdoor activities and who have a car to drive themselves around. If you are seek luxury creature comforts, or don't hike/climb/bike, you might not see what all this fuss...
Read moreLotzorai is a ghost town. There are two (fairly average) pizzerias, one of them is open only Thurs to Sun in low season (I visited in October) and the other you have to drive to. So if you want a nice relaxing meal with a glass of wine after a day's hiking (as I did), you can't because you have to drive. ||||The beach is also a 10 minute drive and it's not the best beach - it's much nicer in Santa Maria Navaresse.||||There's one, small supermarket but that's often closed.||||As for the guest house, my room was clean and the shared bathroom was cleanish (although it wasn't cleaned the day the other guest I was sharing with left, and I had to clean it myself). Breakfast is reasonable. Riky was friendly enough but I didn't find Elena friendly at all. ||||I love Ogliastra and enjoyed some wonderful hikes in the mountains, but next time I will stay in Santa Maria Navaresse (many of the hikes start from...
Read moreWe stayed here for 4 nights with a view to taking in the local area by bike but the heat put play to that idea! But Elena was a great host with plentiful breakfasts and a very nice room. She organised for us to go kayaking with Francesco at La Spiagetta and also provided all manner of maps a day guide books for our use. Whilst there we walked to Cala Goloritze which is stunning and drove to Gairo Vecchio an eerie abandoned village following landslides in the 1950s. Santa Maria Navarese round the corner is also very nice and worth a stroll. As we left they were starting to build an outdoor sofa on the roof terrace which will be a...
