We have been coming for 6 years now as a couple and family, having travelled extensively across Italy this place is simply the best. ||||Daniela and Giovanni are superb hosts, always warm and welcoming. Living on site they are attentive but never intrusive. The accommodation and gardens are beautiful, tastefully created with love and care. The pool is idyllic to laze beside and dip in, and long enough for a decent swim. Like the accommodation it's immaculately clean.||||The village is immersed in the countryside, yet only a 10-15 minute easy drive into Lucca, the best of all the Tuscan towns in our biased view! On your doorstep in the village there is; a grocer shop (20 yards from Villa main gate) selling fabulous local cheese, meat, bread, honey, fruit, veg, pasta and wine; a bar/cafe/pizzeria (10 yards from of the other garden gate) where you can get a tasty margherita pizza for 5 euros, and a bottle of prosecco for 6 euros, you can't beat that; a butchers (you have to walk another whole 10 yards for that..), we recommend the Tuscan sausage; bus stop for Lucca; another family friendly ristorante/bar (50 yards); and if you are prepared to go a full 200 yards you will find a fabulous wee upmarket cafe with really good quality coffee and cakes (x2 capuccinos + x4 small cakes = 6 euros, I don't know how they do it... oh, actually yes I do, it's because it's not in a super touristy location with high rates and greedy owners creaming off big profits) at the roadside into Lucca, and to top it all a lovely restaurant opposite. The village ebbs and flows between quieter and livelier spells, people and places across the day, silence is golden until somebody's dog get's a stern ticking off from its owner for straying into someone else's garden to yap at another dog, 10 minutes later it's back again, etc..., we love it! ||||If you love the outdoors like we do there are a range of great walks, from gentle 20-30 min strolls around country lanes to more challenging trails up the hills that surround the village, some giving spectacular panoramas across the plains towards the leaning tower of Pisa, the coast and back into Lucca. Lots of butterflies, wild flowers, fruit and olive trees, etc.||||The whole feel of the village and the accommodation is very friendly, laid back, safe and down to earth. You get the experience of being in a very typical working Tuscan village, with its community, school, workplaces and families, whilst having the luxury of Villa Del Papa, Giovanni and Daniella, several great options for food and leisure to hand, and all of the best places within reach for a day trip including the Cinque Terre, Florence and Sienna to name a few. The perfect mix, please keep...
Read moreA Dream Stay at Villa Del Papa – La Coppaia We stayed at Villa Del Papa at the end of April in their beautiful two-bedroom apartment, La Coppaia. The villa was absolutely stunning — recently remodeled, spotless, and full of charm and history. The grounds are immaculate, with so much care and detail in every corner. It truly felt like a dream, straight out of a movie.
We traveled as a family with our two-year-old, and I was eight months pregnant at the time — it couldn’t have been more perfect for us. The villa offered privacy, comfort, and a wonderful atmosphere for relaxing and enjoying the Tuscan countryside.
Daniela, the owner, was the sweetest and most gracious host. You can tell how much pride she takes in preserving the history and beauty of the property. Her husband was also incredibly kind and helpful — together they made everyone feel right at home.
We loved eating at the Bar pizzeria behind the villa almost every night and grabbing coffee and pastries from the bakery down the street each morning. The little town was so charming, and the location couldn’t be better — just 15–20 minutes from the Pisa Airport and about 15 minutes from Lucca’s city center.
It was the best family getaway we could have imagined, and we’re already planning...
Read moreWonderful estate, kept up super well with lots of attention to detail. It’s actually much bigger than one would expect. The owners live in the main building, which is nice. Their English is very well and they’ve got you covered when it comes to recommendations. ||We had rented an apartment, which is quite useful if you want to cook. The kitchen was quite equipped functionally but was missing a few essentials, like oil, salt/ pepper, a kitchen towel, or a small pot. Watch out: I you’re charged an additional 50€ in case you don’t clean it accurately at checkout. Air condition in the apartment is a plus, although we didn’t use it. ||There is construction going next door - the owners are remodeling another large villa. The construction noise during the day is quite significant. The village a conveniently located in between Pisa and Lucca. Super nice, but tiny - still everything’s there from a small for very store to a bakery...
