Hotel Convertini — Hotel in Milan

I stayed twice this month at Hotel Convertini. One visit was very pleasant and the other was awful. To start with the good stay, the room was clean and comfortable. The A/C worked very well. The reception staff speaks at least some English, and they were eager to be helpful. They arranged a taxi for me, and it arrived at the appointed minute. Room 9 was my good room...but watch out for the step in the MIDDLE of the bathroom. Easy to forget about that in the middle of the night. My bad stay was in room 13, which has no air conditioning, in spite of the hotel's website implying that all rooms have A/C. For me, it was a 90 degree night and I could barely get sleep. Room 13 has a ceiling fan that spins in a way like it may be loose. The toilet is within the guest room rather than a separate bathroom. Might be a bit intimate...

Located 30+ minutes out of city in an area without good eating places or any attractions. The front desk did not offer information pamphlets/maps. One front desk person did not speak English, the other very little. The room was pleasant and very clean, but the mattress was so thin I had sore hips and an aching back by morning. Despite the service advertised on the booking confirmation, they did not organise airport drop off, not even ringing a taxi. They charged a tax that was not mentioned at any stage of booking. The manager (I had to assume) was unhelpful to say the least. ||I add that I stayed at five other hotels on this trip all nominated by me and rate them all 8 or above. This one was booked by my travel agent and to my regret I accepted...

The hotel is as basic as it gets for a two star. The pros are the included breakfast in the morning and the fact that the room (at least mine) had a private bathroom (no hair dryer). The cons were the terrible location due to it being in a so-called "bad" part of town and the fact that my room faced the street where sirens and the noise from cars were abundant through the whole night. The hotel doesn't have private parking, but has free parking spots on the very front and along the whole street. It's very close to some bus stops and at a 12 minute walking distance from a subway stop. Overall, for the price I paid and the quality of the service,...
