Relais Villa Margherita — Hotel in Oggebbio

I really wanted to give five dots review. The hotel is lovely. The grounds are amazing. Nice pool. Staffed outside bar open from noon until late. Outside tables have beautiful views of the lake. Plenty of parking. The staff was perfect, friendly and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was good if not great. Now for the reason I didn’t give five dots. The room. I found it lacked some needed comforts. It was small. It didn’t have a table or desk. We normally will picnic in our room for lunch or dinner and it was nearly impossible without a table and the hotel did not allow outside picnics. There was only one chair for two people. Overhead lights only except for one bedside lamp. Why only one? There were two of us in bed trying to read. Another lamp so we wouldn’t have to use the overly bright track lighting on the ceiling would have been nice. Very few outlets and inconvenient for charging a phone. Had to lay it on the floor. My wife and I loved Villa Margherita, everything about it. Our room was inviting and very comfortable, our view of the lake was great. The dining room offered delicious food at a reasonable price. The wines from the region were perfect. Breakfast was among the best of our trip. What really was impressive was the friendliness of the staff, just terrific, ready to converse, interesting people. We would stay there again in a flash. If I could give the VM an 11, I would. We've stayed at many Relais et Chateau. This was very similar. We were there for 5 nights over Easter week. Beautiful hotel in an amazing setting with superb views. Great buffet breakfast on the terrace. Lovely pool. Big fluffy towels in huge bathrooms, lots of space and rooms very clean. Pool/lake towels also provided. Excellent continental style buffet breakfast with lots of choice including eggs cooked to order. Electric car charger which is popular, good value, needs the recharge app. Lots of steps as everything is on different levels.
