We arrived to find a beetle wandering across the floor of our room -no problem, although it meant that we didn't feel like having the balcony door open. One bedside light did not work. The sink plug would not close. Some reviews have mentioned small showers -and the cubicle in our bathroom was indeed microscopic; my wife thought the shampoo provision was minuscule. And some reviews refer to the main road and the hotel's location between two railway lines. However, we found that any traffic or train noise did not disturb us at all. The bed was quite comfortable, and (like the room itself) was spacious.|The main reception lady was friendly and helpful. There is a small bar area in reception where we purchased a glass of wine and a teeny tiny cup of coffee.|There was a charming, but over helpful, waitress who presided over our first breakfast morning. As regards available tables, there was plenty of choice (unlike the breakfast food). However, we were obliged to sit at a particular table. The waitress handed us a sachet of butter and said it was the last one. At our second breakfast morning a different waitress said that the butter was "finished". I avoided the food that the fly had been enjoying.|The room was clean and very well serviced. No tea, coffee, kettle in the room.|Parking was generally fine; although I think if the area was laid out better there would be more spaces for cars.|One room along a corridor was labelled "family room" but we never saw a child. We never happened to notice a female guest either. It was as if the hotel was mainly for painters and decorators or lorry drivers stopping...
Read moreThe hotel feels shabby and hasn’t been renovated recently, but this is not the main point.||We arrived at the hotel on a hot May afternoon only to discover that the AC was not working and the room was stuffy and humid (we specifically selected a hotel with air conditioning). After tinkering with all AC controls, we returned to the lobby and asked about the AC. The receptionist gave us an embarrassed smile, opened a central circuit box and flipped a switch. ||For the time being we had air conditioning. But after we left the hotel and returned later in the evening, the AC was off again. We came back to the lobby to talk to the night shift manager, who barely spoke any English. He said and wrote “Giugnio” on a piece of paper, implying that they did not turn on air conditioning in the hotel until June (this was not written anywhere on Hotels.com). He then went up to our room and pretended to tinker with the AC control panel (which obviously didn’t work because the main circuit breaker was down). He later proposed that we open the balcony window and let in some cold air and that in a few hours the room will cool down. I should mention that the back of the hotel overlooks a busy railway. ||We found this unacceptable and at that point decided to leave the hotel. We found very reasonable accommodations next door, with air conditioning and much more pleasant hospitality and rooms for a...
Grazie...
