It is with considerable regret that I cannot recommend this campsite. Its proprietors have no idea of service and the campsite itself is shabby, overgrown with weeds and dirty. Do not be lured by the glitzy, outsourced and carefully airbrushed website (PS my malware software detected dangerous links which I haven’t reproduced for obvious reasons) claiming to offer 5 star camping. |We had booked a week in a premier pitch 5 months in advance for a really relaxing break. We were promised at least 150 square metres of lush lawn and all-weather surface and a view of the Dolomites. |The reality is that this is a reasonably flat, lightly terraced and over-populated site that is badly in need of care and renovation next to a busy road which is popular with bikers at the weekend and trucks and buses during the week. When we arrived the road surface was being replaced with all the noise and smell that implies. We hadn’t been warned of this. There is no discernible difference between the premier and comfort sites apart from the price, but more of that later. |My wife was astonished not even to be acknowledged by a receptionist who was looking at a computer when she went to book in.|The proffered pitch was unsatisfactory; we were unable to access it with our large rig and it had a two storey wooden hut immediately behind it. The escorting man on the golf buggy seemed to find it a terrible chore to be helping paying guests.|I reversed 100m to an offered replacement. We cleared the dog faeces off the pitch first. It was getting late, so it wasn’t until the following morning I realised that the pitch was in no sense of the word premier. It was 10 by 8 metres of gravel and long weeds. The view was of an overnight motorhome park and an overflowing dog waste bin. Not the Dolomites.|After a complaint to reception, they couldn’t offer us any other premier pitches, but a quick stroll round the campsite revealed that the comfort (less expensive) pitches were one side of reception and had far better views than the more expensive premier ones on the other side. I still can’t work out what the difference is. We moved to a decently large pitch. It was however on a busy campsite route and while we had no company at first, it soon filled up with other people within 2 metres of our van. We also had to clear dog faeces from this pitch.|The website makes much mention of the addons. There is a wellness garden which is simply a haphazard walk through various muddy and boggy puddles until you reach a special Knieppen area. This is actually a few dried up bits of fir branch to walk over. One good thing – it’s free. That’s unique here. It was originally an outside pool, but there is now no outdoor pool (in a campsite – seriously?) but there is, at a price, a bookable regimented indoor pool. There is a fee for everything: even emptying your own toilet cassette into a machine costs €2 a clean. The chemical toilet rooms stink like a pig farm, too. (Yes, I did try both toilet blocks).|There are some extraordinary features. The washroom facilities, housed in huge, brooding, austere square wooden buildings have come directly from the set of a horror film, with dark, mysterious rooms that suddenly spring to life with hallucinatory décor as lights come on when you enter, in the way floating skeletons light up as you pass on a ghost train. The shop does have a reasonable range of food and drinks, with good bread and pastries cooked on site but mostly features tourist tat and eye-wateringly priced skin creams that presumably are pushed in the wellness centre.|We tried one restaurant, a well-hidden taverna down some back stairs. It too has a mournful Gothic entrance and feel to it complete with what looks like a locked torture chamber cage on the way in, and we wandered into to a plainly half-empty room to be asked if we had booked. There was then a lot of theatre to ‘fit us in’ while the restaurant emptied around us. The food was OK.|We had failed to fall in love with this campsite, and the final straw came when we returned from a day out to find the entrance blocked by two campervans waiting to enter. The entrance is a tight bottleneck, but a car can get past. Except one of the staff had parked his car in the way. He was unloading boxes of something. He saw us and ignored us, continuing to unload his car.|We have stayed in campsites and hotels around the world at all levels including International 5 star hotels. The thing that sets the top providers aside is attention to detail and a clear mission to put the customer first. The man whose car blocked our path to unload his boxes should have moved it the instant he saw he was in our way. Indeed, he should have parked somewhere discreet out of the way in the first place. Guests should not be exposed to the workings of a holiday venue. Requests should be met rapidly and with an efficient air of ease and courtesy, not defensiveness. The only place we noted a large number of staff was the restaurants which had people standing around doing nothing. We only saw one person doing groundworks while we were there, and it might be an idea to redeploy some of the waiting staff to keep the grounds clean. |Camping Sexten was a dreadful disappointment. Its website promises 5 star luxury and it really has no clue how to deliver what it promises. Once you strip away all the extras you have to pay for, it’s a 3 star campsite in a nice part of the world. The lack of a free pool to dip in and out of as you please is a serious omission. The website borders on misrepresentation. Novelty toilet blocks and high prices are no substitute for well-trained, caring staff and good quality management. It is unforgivable to make your problem the guest’s problem; not once but repeatedly. We left two days early. They ‘only’ charged us for the comfort pitch (although I had to ask them to correct an error in the bill) and were deaf to the...
Read morehave been at this place with a group of mountainbiker in 2018. I did like it so much that I could finally convince my family to go there for summer vacation in 2022. ||Here comes the 1 STAR part.||In 2018 some of the high end mountainbikes have been stolen from the inner part of the caravan park. Yes they have been locked. ||In 2022 my 2nd visit a E-bike of us has been stolen from the backyard of our lodge. Also this time locked with heavy bike lock.||What's the responsibility of the caravan park as I can agree the criminals itself is out of theirs. I heard 2018 and 2022 the same story from Caravan park: We never had the last years any issues with bike theft: Somehow it only happens when I'm there. And even if this were the case I wonder that there is no surveillance especially in the entrance area that allow the theft just carry the bike (25kg) to the outside and put it into a van. The caravan park makes it way too easy for the thieves. You might know that in tha caravan parks a lot of very expensive stuff with caravans above 0,5mio€, bikes and as well a lot of children are around. This is a magnet for thieves. But instead of surveillance the park has 7 web cams that are useless for this application. I did ask the front desk staff if we should lock our bikes in the availabel bike/ski rooms or if it's save to have them locked in the backyard of the lodge. Anwer was no need to lock to the bike room. I'm telling you lock your bikes to the bike room no matter what they say.||5 STAR part||Fabulous park. We stayed in a lodge and enjoyed every day the sensational nature around. With a wide range of possibilities for hiker, mountainbiker, families, climber, ... After the outdoor experience we went to the pool, wellness and spa area. Best deal for the whole familily. I'd like to highlight the pool and spa area which is outstanding. The pool made of natural stones is unique. The last time I have seen a Spa area on that level the room rate was above...
Read moreWonderful Family Getaway at Caravan Park
We recently spent four unforgettable days at Caravan Park with our two daughters, aged 11 and 13. Our experience was nothing short of fantastic, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and fun for the entire family.
Accommodation and Amenities
The cleanliness of the park was impressive, especially in the bathing areas. As someone with long hair, I was delighted to find spotless showers equipped with hairdryers, making it easy to wash and dry my hair without any hassle. The caravan park also boasts a well-stocked shop that caters to all your needs during your stay. The shop assistant, a lovely grey-haired lady, has her moments, but she often surprises you with her warm smiles and laughter.
Food and Dining
One of the highlights was the delicious homemade pastries and other meals available, particularly the strudels. The park offers a great selection of gluten-free and lactose-free options, which was a relief for those with dietary restrictions. The quality of meat served was excellent, though I did miss having fresh fish on the menu. Overall, the dining experience was satisfying and catered well to different dietary needs.
Spa and Leisure Facilities
The spa facilities were generally clean and suitable for families with young children. Our kids loved the micro-sand area where they could play and have fun. However, it’s worth noting that the women’s showers sometimes had long queues, which could be a bit inconvenient during peak times.
Overall Experience
Caravan Park provided us with a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and St Tropez luxury. The well-maintained facilities and friendly atmosphere made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. I highly recommend this park for families looking to create cherished memories together, surely travel to the closed loccated lakes...
