We always loved Dolomites in the summer or winter. In 25+ years we usually never had a problem getting to the destination but sometimes, life happens, and you can't get there. It can be last minute thing or 3+ months ahead of time. It's frustrating. In those not so fun times that happened 2 times until now, accommodations were always ready to meet us somewhere "in between", giving away "coupons" to use the full amount of "penalty" money later when you can come or even not charge the penalty at all. I would call this "a very good service" and in touch with your guests. It's nice to know, that they actually want you there even if not at the time. It's also a good business since you spend a lot more in the long run for vacation there.
This year, we were really looking forward spending summer holidays in Vigilerhof. We booked way in advance and checked if dogs are welcomed there, because we were in a process of getting one and hoped to walk those mountain trails with him. Well we got it and on our first little holiday in april found out it has major aggressiveness problems towards other dogs. It's bad and stressful and we are working to go through longer training to fix this. We realized there is no way, we can go on summer holidays with him in a hotel with other dogs around. We would love to go for sure but we have to think about being somewhere without many distractions for others or us. So i had to cancel Vigilerhof booking, first explaining the problem and since we were in the first penalty month (3 months before arrival), if anything can be done to not charge us the full amount (40% of whole booking). I've got an answer that nothing can be done and i can put my dog in a kennel for the holidays. Not really a nice answer from a holiday establishment where dogs are welcomed and liked...
I had no choice but to cancel the booking, explaining one more time, but half an hour after cancellation i've got a full charge on my credit card (40% of all booking sum, so a lot of money) and no answer.
Yes, they have a policy and it is my fault for not cancelling 3 weeks earlier but at the time we thought we can work it through. So i can't really be mad for them to exercise their booking cancelation policy. But Vigilerhof not showing even little understanding towards your guests is underwhelming. There are many better ways to deal with a situation like this, than take the full money and run.
For that reason, i don't know how nice it is to stay there and we surely won't try to go the...
Read moreOverall we really liked our stay - a warm welcome with an aperitivo, the room was nice and spacious (a note for light sleepers: we booked a room with valley view which is in fact next to the road and you can hear the cars even with windows closed + the mattresses are quite hard), the food was delicious (no problem to make vegetarian variations), abundant breakfast, great spa, ski shuttle right in front of the hotel.
However, there were quite a few things that in a 4s hotel shouldn’t happen. When we arrived, two lights in our room didn’t work, not even the second day anybody noticed, so we had to ask for it to be fixed. No hair conditioner was provided. Our dirty tea cups were not being replaced. In general, the cleaning should be better. Important to note though, that all this was fixed very promptly after we mentioned it. Another point would be that there is no clear dresscode in the spa so you have people without their bikini and others wearing it which eventually makes everyone quite uncomfortable. Also, the area around the steam smelled a bit moldy. And last, even though the waiters knew I didn’t eat meat, it happened that I was served a dish that in fact contained some “hidden” meat (the menu didn’t mention it) - this happened when we had another than our usual waiter (who was very nice and attentive).
As mentioned, all these are little things and if this was not a 4s hotel, I wouldn’t even mention it. But in a hotel of this category/price, this...
Read moreOn arriving the reception area gave the right feel, and when greeted the welcome was friendly. The bedroom was just great, large and with a balcony with a view over the expansive green valley to the hills behind which the sun was setting. The wardrobes had lots of hangers, the bathroom lots of space, the beds were comfortable, as was the sofa and the chairs on the balcony. This was excellent. The views to the rear, over the swimming pool, up to the woods and the peaks of the Dolomites did not disappoint. Down to the bar with its draft beer and large selection of wines with really friendly staff. You could sit outside or take a table in one of the many dining rooms.||This was clearly a great choice of place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the team, whether Housekeeping or the Catering brigade. Breakfast is extensive and the dinner menu quite wide. We stayed 10 nights and thought this was a great destination. ||Berlusconi, the hotel cat, was also very accommodating. There is music on Friday night, and random buffets which are also very good. Basically if you are going to stay in this part of the Dolomites there is no reason to look elsewhere as Ulrike's team deliver a fantastic offer with a very high...
