Camping Seiser Alm Review - Dolomites Family Holiday
Location: Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi), South Tyrol, Italian Dolomites Duration: 4 days, summer Group: Family with children Overall Rating: Excellent first Dolomites experience
Accommodation & Location
Pitch Placement: Secured a fantastic spot near the children's playground - perfect strategic positioning for families. This location provided easy supervision of kids while allowing parents to relax at their pitch.
Site Layout: The campsite is built on varying elevations, with facilities located uphill from some pitches. While this means a bit of a walk (especially with camping gear), the elevated position likely offers better views of the surrounding Dolomites.
Facilities - Outstanding Quality
Sanitary Facilities: Described as "first class" and "the best we've stayed at" - a significant endorsement for a family that has clearly experienced various campsites. The uphill walk to facilities appears to be a minor inconvenience compared to the exceptional quality provided.
Swimming Pool: Nice on-site pool facility Adult-only evening hours - excellent for parents wanting peaceful relaxation Poolside bar adds a resort-like touch to the camping experience Afternoon pool sessions available (though this family was too busy exploring to book)
Location Advantages
Dolomites Access: Perfect base for exploring one of Europe's most spectacular mountain regions. The campsite serves as an excellent launching point for Dolomites hiking and sightseeing.
Local Amenities: Walking distance to a swimming lake - additional recreational option Easy access to public transport via nearby bus stop Direct connection to Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm) - Europe's largest high-altitude Alpine meadow Transport links for exploring the broader region
Family-Friendly Features
Playground proximity for constant child entertainment Safe, contained environment for children to play Pool facilities suitable for family use Good balance of on-site amenities and local exploration opportunities
Overall Experience
This campsite successfully delivered an excellent introduction to the Dolomites region. The combination of high-quality facilities, strategic location for hiking and exploration, and family-friendly setup made for a memorable first visit to South Tyrol.
Would Recommend For: Families seeking a quality base for Dolomites exploration Campers who prioritize excellent facilities over absolute convenience Those wanting a mix of relaxation (pool/bar) and adventure (hiking/exploration) First-time visitors to the Dolomites region
Minor Considerations: Uphill walk to facilities may not suit everyone Popular location may require advance booking Some pitches better positioned than others
Verdict: An excellent choice for families wanting to experience the majesty of the Dolomites while enjoying top-tier...
Read moreMy recent stay at Camping Seiser Alm was nothing short of a huge disappointment and incredibly frustrating. I would strongly advise anyone considering this campsite to look elsewhere. The issues began immediately upon arrival, and the management proved to be not only ineffective at enforcing their own rules but also rude and dishonest on multiple occasions.
The most significant problem was the pitch assignment. I was given pitch number 200, which was essentially an extension of the car park, not a proper camping pitch. What made this truly unacceptable was being initially charged the same price as the much larger, better-located pitches far from the parking chaos. To make matters worse, despite a clearly marked "no parking" sign near my pitch, it was completely ignored. I found myself with several cars parked haphazardly right in front of my camper, effectively blocking me in. I immediately brought this to the attention of the reception, but their response was a dismissive "it's not our fault," showing a complete lack of accountability or willingness to help.
Furthermore, while the bathrooms, showers, and washing machines were clean and in good condition, their quantity is woefully inadequate for such a large campsite with a high volume of guests. This led to frustratingly long waits and an inconvenient experience for basic daily needs.
The professionalism and courtesy of the reception staff were another major letdown. When I pointed out that the price for pitch 200 was excessive given its poor location and size, the staff became argumentative and impolite. It was only after my repeated complaints that they admitted pitch 200 actually had a lower price due to its smaller size and a limited electrical supply of 4 Amperes/hour. This attempt to overcharge for an inferior service reveals a blatant dishonesty on the part of the management.
To top it all off, at check-in, they requested my credit card details. Only later did I discover an unexplained charge of approximately €4, a sum they have yet to refund me.
In summary, Camping Seiser Alm is too large for the services it provides, the management is incapable of enforcing basic rules of coexistence (like preventing rampant parking), and the staff proved to be rude and dishonest. My overall experience was negative, and I strongly recommend looking for other...
Read moreWe've been here a couple of times. It is a really good camping, especially for those who come with camper vans. What I dislike is the internet connection - it is very unreliable. It's not a place to come if you have to work! Also some neighbour dogs are finding a way to the camping and searching for food during the night. Didn't noticed that in our last visit. Other than that I am super happy with the place! The location is amazing, really great views! Very close to the cable way to go skiing or hiking in Seiser Alm. They will give you a free bus ticket that you can use for a week to travel to the surrounding villages. The service installations are super clean and well organised. They are actually served as in a hotel, very professionally and often! You have free dish washing machines! The camping shop has everything you need and prices and almost normal (comparing to local super markets). There is also a luxury restaurant in the camping but we never tried it. If you cross the street there is a restaurant/guest house with really really good food! I can recommend the pizzas there, the chef is a true master! There is also an automated pizza machine at the camping itself. Not a great pizza but acceptable one! The staff was always friendly and nice with us. It's not a cheap camping but you wont regret if you visit it. Although I wouldn't give it 4 stars as it...
