Berglertafel night video captured my fantasy. That mountain backdrop, where and how can I see it in person? |It was a week long quest and I found another YouTube of the same view and Alphotel Panorama has it! There it is, we have to book our stay there! ||The hotel is located between St Zyprian (San Cipriano) and Tiers am Rosengarten. Surrounded by neighborhood chalets, the hotel sits on a higher ground like --a little hill facing the town valley and offers Rosengarten panoramic view.||Choosing smaller scenic routes, the drive from Ortisei to the hotel took a little over an hour. We arrived after four pm. The hotel has plenty of private parking spots, but almost all were occupied --we found our spot! I ran inside the hotel, some hotel guests were enjoying evening drinks chatting with the Robatschers--hotel owner. The father and son greeted me and knew who we were. We told them that it was not difficult finding their address. Right away, one of them escorted us to our room. I was delighted, the room balcony has a killer view of that Rosengarten of my dream! Here we are!||We walked around the hotel grounds and then went to the garden to enjoy the view. It is an oasis -- a serene, breathtaking and relaxing place. We ordered my favorite gingerinos, and took them to our room to enjoy sunset at our balcony.||Dinner served at 7pm. All hotel guests were seated at their tables. A beautiful dining room layout and we were surprised that all tables were occupied. The family brought out each of the 3 courses dinner to each guests. Each course has two or three options of the day. Dinner was good and delightful. ||The next morning, breakfast were served in the same room, buffet style. A basket of bread and coffee were prepared to the table. They are very kind with their service.||Back to "the view", earlier before breakfast, we were watching sunrise from our balcony. I videotaped this memory-- the spectacle when this range of mountain became pink. It was a complete stay in Tiers, seeing sunset and sunrise colors on the Rosengarten.|When checking out, the hotel owner added a token souvenir, a Rosengarten fridge magnet with the rose sunset colors on it. What a perfect picture of hospitality...and a wonderful memory of...
Read moreI was hiking nearby in early October and saw this hotel situated in a great spot for nice views. I stopped in the parking area and to save time rather than go in to check rates, I stayed in the car to pull its rate and details on my hotel app. An older lady carrying a basket appeared from the hotel, looked me over, and then with her finger pointed to the end of the driveway and made a U-Turn motion at me with a very stern look, as in “turn around and get out.” I was a little stunned, enough to change my mind and leave. ||The next day, I talked myself into thinking I should not be paranoid and assume this behavior was entirely due to my having olive skin and appearing to be an immigrant, rather than a tourist. I drove to the hotel, parked and entered the lobby. It is a beautiful hotel I have to say. That same old lady was in the lobby talking to a man wearing an apron, making it obvious they were both staff members. The moment the older lady saw me, she turn her head away from me. The man looked me over in silence. They would not greet me, so I broke the awkward moment and said good morning in English. ||I made an inquiry about apartments, and I was told in German, they had only rooms. I would have liked to consider just a room, but by then it was obvious I was not wanted there. He pointed to another hotel that had apartments and was kind enough to add the word “bitte” to show me a modicum of courtesy. The older lady never looked in my direction.||Now, I have lived long enough to know older folk can get overly cautious and at times a bit xenophobic, but I have never seen one in the hospitality business. What will they do when increasing tourism from India and china brings in more foreign looking travelers? I love Italy and travel there every year; in the south, I am usually mistaken for an Italian, but in this northern hotel, I was an unwelcome...
Read moreWe have just returned and found that in October the weather was great and being in the quite season between Summer and just before the Winter skiing season stared it was quite and not crowded. This is a family run Hotel, which gives it a very personal touch. It is mainly German speaking but English is spoken by the very friendly younger members of the family, Yuli (sorry if wrong spelling)one of the three brothers was very helpful on local points of interest and when choosing the wine from the extensive list of local producers. The Restaurant, Lounge and Bar was open plan, which gave it a very spacious yet still very cosy with all the exposed wood. A couple of evenings there was live local music and created a good atmosphere. We had a double room on the lower level which again was very spacious and had a large balcony with terrific views of the Dolomites and Rosengarten, which obviously gives the hotel its name. There are so many Hiking trails nearby of varying degrees of difficulty it is not necessary to have a car although we did as we arrived at Verona Airport. However the hotel will pick you up if you arrive at Bolzano Airport. There is a bus service which takes you into Bolzano about 26 Km away, this is a very nice City and definitely worth seeing is the “Otzi the Iceman” museum which is dedicated to the body of a man found in the Italian Alps in 1991and is over 5000 years old. We will go back to this Hotel next year and as a minor suggestion it would be nice to have a couple of English speaking channels on...
