Hotel Club Ravezzo — Hotel in Ugento

This place is WAY off the beaten path for American tourists, but if you like an all inclusive hotel steps away from the beach and its own beach bar, then I highly recommend this hotel!||||The beach is on the Ionian Sea, and it is so shallow and warm that it feels like a bathtub! The town in which the hotel is located is callled Lido Marini, and there is a lively "main drag" - Via Cristoforo Colombo, just minutes away from the Ravezzo. While the hotel has everything you need (rooftop terrace with great sunset views, pool and did I mention the beach?!), it is worth it to get out and explore Lido Marini a bit. I recommend the Rosa dei Venti for espresso and a crepe; Anna and her husband are the owners and are super nice. Bar Marini, about a 5 minute walk down the beach toward the main street, makes a great Spritz cocktail and overlooks the sea. Pasticceria Martinucci, which is “in town” (walk all the way up the main drag and cross the road) makes delicious lemon granitas and the pastries are to die for. Kalidria Lounge is a wonderful place to hang, watch the sea and have an inexpensive lunch, and they also have live music shows in the summer. And if you want a different beach bar experience that is more upscale and elegant, walk down to Zona Franca where Manuela and her team will take great care of you (and they play very cool music!). ||||One drawback; very little English is spoken in this part of Italy so I recommend getting at the very least an “Italian for Travelers” class under your belt if you are considering coming down here! One of the hotel front desk staff members, Daniella, speaks English, but she is it!||||If you don't want to drive, in the summer there is a bus service that goes from the city of Lecce to Santa Maria di Leuca. It's pretty good, but do arrive 15 minutes before the printed schedule as sometimes it is early and sometimes it is late. You can hop on and off and see some of the other beautiful sites and beaches along the Salento coast by air conditioned bus. My husband and I spent a week in Ravezzo. Our holiday was excellent.||||Hotel is very cosy and peaceful; we heard no noise to our room and enjoyed our full board lunches and dinners in peace. ||||Food is delicious. Our full board included breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was tiny but did not matter as we were served more than we could eat both at lunch and dinner. Both meals comprised of antipasto, Primi piatti, Primi secondo and dessert. There were 2 options for Piatti and Secondo and 1 option for antipasto and dessert. Everything was superb throughout the week. As the food was delicious we ate so much that we had difficulties to find time - and space in our stomachs - to visit pasticceria Martinucci nearby and have ice ceam there. ||||Ravezzo's special strenght is its staff. Everybody served us so warmly that I had tears in my eyes as we said goodbye. Excellency concerns everybody from cleaner ladies to receptionists, waiters and of course chef. I got extremely fond of one of the animators who organize program on the beach. Io normalmente recensisco gli alberghi quando posso dare 4/5 punti, altrimenti tralascio perché il trovarsi bene o meno in un posto è quasi sempre una questione di esperienze e gusti personali; ma stavolta non posso evitare. È stata una vacanza pesante, due settimane (troppe per un posto che non convince), senza riuscire ad instaurare un rapporto di fiducia e affezione. L’albergo si è presentato semplice, al limite della funzionalità, eppure rumorosissimo e caotico; un baretto al bisogno non servito, due terrazze al secondo piano inutilizzate, la camera con un armadietto sufficiente forse per una persona per un soggiorno di tre notti, ghiacciata (si è scaldata dopo tre giorni di aria condizionata spenta); c’era pure la condensa del condizionatore che gocciava quasi sul letto. Non basta dire preventivamente ai clienti che la struttura è vecchia, perché se si vuole si può sempre migliorare. Avevamo la stanza che guardava sul “retro”, appena sopra la cucina forse, si sentivano rumori di ogni tipo insostenibili la sera. Il ristorante non si fa assolutamente amare; sono vent’anni che vengo in Puglia, e onestamente non ho mai mangiato così male tranne un solo anno. I primi piatti tutti con lo stesso sapore, carne alla brace immangiabile, impossibile da tagliare, il tonno durissimo, asciutto, dal sapore di vecchio e stracotto; ho rimandato indietro più volte il piatto, cosa che io non ho mai fatto in vent’anni di vacanze in Puglia, e questa cosa la trovo abbastanza grave per un 4 stelle. La spiaggia convenzionata è accessibile anche ai clienti esterni all’hotel, in mezzo a due spiagge libere praticamente sature; non venivano nemmeno rispettate le regole base sui metri di spazio libero per i soccorsi durante il weekend; eravamo in prima fila, pagando per prenderci le pallonate in faccia perché venivano a giocare davanti ai lettini. Schiamazzi nelle camere, nei corridoi, in strada e in spiaggia (senza imputare la colpa all’hotel per questi), insonorizzazione inesistente, il rumore del vento che in stanza sembrava quello di un uragano, tutto il giorno, tutti i giorni. Credevo di andare in un posto tranquillo dopo aver letto le recensioni, ma non c’è assolutamente nulla di tranquillo, la tranquillità è ben altra cosa. L’albergo va benissimo per chi non cerca il silenzio, come era nel mio caso. Non ha i servizi all’altezza di un 4 stelle nella maniera più assoluta e costa tanto per quello che offre. Probabilmente sono abituata molto bene, dove le 4 stelle lo sono per davvero, in ogni servizio, e tranquillità è la parola d’ordine. Unica nota positiva, insieme alla vicinanza alla spiaggia e alla pulizia degli spazi comuni (perché in camera e nel bagno non era eccezionale), la riservo al mare meraviglioso e a tutto il personale dell’hotel compreso quello del chiosco, che comunque è stato sempre gentilissimo. È un gran peccato che il Salento stia alzando i prezzi sempre più, in modo spropositato, senza più offrire i servizi di una volta, e questo albergo ne è la dimostrazione lampante; sicuramente è abbastanza triste che un albergo così sia classificato come 4 stelle, quando la ristorazione e il servizio lasciano molto a desiderare e rasentano le 2 stelle....
