If you are one of those skiers who want to spend a quiet evening rather than put up with the noise of cars and street revelers late at night in the typical ski village, then this is the place for you. The place is between the towns of Valtournenche and Cervinia - quite isolated in fact.||||If driving, there is plenty of parking as there are only 3-4 rooms here. You can drive across a wood bridge that spans a flowing stream and park in front of the building. If you take the bus like we did, the Savda bus from Milan via Chatillon (25 minutes away) stops out front, about a quarter mile walk from the lodge to the road at the Gouffres des Bousserailles stop. Local buses stop there as well to take skiers to either Cervinia ( 7 minutes) or Valtournenche ( 5 minutes).||||The rooms are charming - alpine all the way with knotty pine walls and ceiling, down comfortors, heated flooring, and dual glaze / dual opening windows and doors. ||||You are isolated here but there is a restaurant at the Rascard Hotel about a half mile south. If you walk, it will take 10 minutes but bring a flashlight at night even though part of the walk is through a lit tunnel. Genny, the owner at La Garde, gets you a discount there. The best part of the dinners there are the desserts - five stars for the their cakes.||||Finally, Genny is a wealth of information and is so very accomodating. She waited for us even though we had been an hour late in showing up. She answered all of our questions and gave us so many great...
Read moreFirst of all this is not a B&B since breakfast is not offered. The name and the sign on the house are misleading. It took us a while to work out that breakfast was not served and I can imagine that someone, who books spontaneously can be disappointed.||The house is nice and overall cozy. The kitchens are well equipped and the fact that you can cook a meal was not obvious from reading the details of the place. In our apartment there were teas, coffee, salt and jams but no sugar, oil, detergent for dishes, toilet paper, soap and scissors. When we raised this to the owner he said that because of Covid he cannot provide anything. One apartment had kitchen towels and the other one not. Well, then the service could be improved by alerting people that such basic items are not provided. ||The owner has helped out with the dishwasher, giving us tips on what to do with the kids and has shown flexibility with the check-out. Very much appreciated! Although difficult, we could adjust the warmth in our apartment. WIFI worked very well. We had a good time staying at this place although we did not see any...
