one of my friends does not eat seafood and when I made reservation i have already specified that . Upon check in i also made sure that the staff understood us as he spoke little english and he is a trainee. Unfortunately the dinner on the first night, their served river fish to my friend, thinking that seafood is only food from the sea so river fish is ok. After we told them that was not the case, they didn't even attempt to replace the food with something else so my friend was left hungry. The next 2 breakfast and 1 dinner, they served less food to my friend as they could not come out with 1 to 1 replacement on the dishes that have seafood. We have been travelling Japan and staying at traditional Ryokan for the past 10 years and this is the first time that we experienced this and this is such a luxurious ryokan . All the ryokan we stayed in will serve other food and it is a 1 to 1 replacement so that the customer will not feel short-changed. another bad experience is we were dining in the dining hall and there were not enough service staff. so we were left waiting for our food. This is also a first that we have never experienced in other ryokan. Lastly when we went out at 4am in the morning for the unkai tour, the carpark was pitch dark but there was no staff standing there to make sure that the guest will not fall down. The ryokan is beautiful but the service is bad. we are amazed because we have never experienced this in all our japan trips. Will never recommend this ryokan for any non-english speaking customers or customers that have special requirement...
Read moreMy husband and I were on our way to Shirahone Onsen but the roads were closed due to Typhoon Mawar, so we had to find a place to stay along the way. We arrived after 5 hours of frustrating and difficult driving, unannounced. The staff were a bit surprised to see us since this is not the kind of place that has unannounced guests arrive during a typhoon, but were very welcoming and accommodating. We stayed in room 106, which was extremely spacious (large living room, separate bedroom, many small art/decor displays, dressing room, toilet room, bathroom, and separate cypress bath area, two gardens). It was a palatial traditional tatami room, very well-maintained, clean, with lovely decor and plenty of amenities. The hotel itself is huge and very beautifully decorated, with a Noh stage. The night of the typhoon, amazingly, there was a traditional Japanese drum show. The breakfast was served in a separate tatami room in the restaurant, and was very extensive. The hotel staff were wonderful. All in all, it is a great place to stay if you are looking for a traditional Japanese experience (which we were!), and was an amazing place to spend the night of...
Read moreFrom the welcome in the car park, into the hotel, dinner and leaving the service was wonderful.||||We arrived and were greeted by staff in the car park who parked the car and took our baggage. We made it inside were offered a drink and snack while we were personally checked in.||||We were then shown to our room as well as the facilities including the onsen. The room had a its own separate toilet and bathroom in the entry, then the main room had lots of space and a side area with chairs to look out over the beautifully landscaped gardens.||||The onsen was very nice, there was good facilities inside, there was an inside onsen and an outside rock pool area. Each day they swap the men and women's around, so you get to see both areas.||||The food was impeccable and the service was amazing, you have your own private dinning room.||||Unfortunately one of us got very sick (nothing to do with this Ryokan) but they couldn't do enough to assist and help us. I am so appreciative of the help they provided to us...thank you very much!||||I would definitely recommend staying...
