I had no expectations whatsoever from this hotel before I came due to a lack of reviews on Tripadvisor. But whoa! From the reception that began at the carpark all the way to the lobby I was blown away. And considering this was my umpteenth time in Japan the service was impeccable. Next KO punch was the view - overseeing a wide swathe of central Kyushu and a river, it was gorgeous in the day and beautiful by night. We travelled as a family of 5 and stayed together in one large room with the same spectacular view. The room amenities were faultless. There is 1 indoor onsen and 1 outdoor, both were nice. Not among the best I've had in Japan, but good nonetheless. Price was excellent: 10000 JPY per person per night with dinner and breakfast. Food was good as well, with 13 courses for dinner encompassing a variety of traditional Japanese cuisine. We were actually full by the 10th course. The best part of our stay though, was a part time service staff by the name of Aya-san. Being more of a local hotel, they weren't used to English speakers. So when they knew we were coming, they requested for Aya-san to be our host. She speaks very good English, was very friendly and went the extra mile to recommend in-season places of interest. View hotel Heisei is an excellent choice, tou really can't go wrong here. |PS - Aya-san, if you're reading this, we'd like to thank you for the 甘木 trip - the cosmos were so pretty! We wish you the very best of health, and do come visit...

Read moreThe name of the hotel shows its major strength: Panoramic view of Chikugo Plain from the top of a small hill. Besides, the room rate is friendly: 400 US$/night for a Japanese style room with in-room open-air onsen, in-room kaiseiki dinner & breakfast in a private chamber. Onsen of this district may be less famous than Kurokawa & Beppu, but the price justify the choice. |The room is clean and well-maintained. Hay mattress and quilts are all clean, though the open-air onsen pool inside the room may be renovated to have a better appearance. Like other onsen inns, all staff I met are very polite and friendly. As this hotel seems not a favourite of package tour groups, it was quiet and cozy during my stay. Some staff speak English. |One free shuttle bus runs between hotel (10:30am) and Hakata Station(1:00pm), try to use it since the location of the hotel is not accessible. If you choose to arrive by driving, the hotel has large car park. But please be reminded that some roads and bridges leading to hotel are quite narrow and therefore be careful of vehicles in opposite direction. On holiday when shuttle bus is not available, ask hotel staff to pick you up from JR Chikugo Yoshii station. |Yoshii is a small town with some traditional houses and heritages. Recommend to stay 2 nights to have some time...
