I had no expectations whatsoever from this hotel before I came due to a lack of reviews on Tripadvisor. But whoa! From the reception that began at the carpark all the way to the lobby I was blown away. And considering this was my umpteenth time in Japan the service was impeccable. Next KO punch was the view - overseeing a wide swathe of central Kyushu and a river, it was gorgeous in the day and beautiful by night. We travelled as a family of 5 and stayed together in one large room with the same spectacular view. The room amenities were faultless. There is 1 indoor onsen and 1 outdoor, both were nice. Not among the best I've had in Japan, but good nonetheless. Price was excellent: 10000 JPY per person per night with dinner and breakfast. Food was good as well, with 13 courses for dinner encompassing a variety of traditional Japanese cuisine. We were actually full by the 10th course. The best part of our stay though, was a part time service staff by the name of Aya-san. Being more of a local hotel, they weren't used to English speakers. So when they knew we were coming, they requested for Aya-san to be our host. She speaks very good English, was very friendly and went the extra mile to recommend in-season places of interest. View hotel Heisei is an excellent choice, tou really can't go wrong here. |PS - Aya-san, if you're reading this, we'd like to thank you for the 甘木 trip - the cosmos were so pretty! We wish you the very best of health, and do come visit...

The name of the hotel shows its major strength: Panoramic view of Chikugo Plain from the top of a small hill. Besides, the room rate is friendly: 400 US$/night for a Japanese style room with in-room open-air onsen, in-room kaiseiki dinner & breakfast in a private chamber. Onsen of this district may be less famous than Kurokawa & Beppu, but the price justify the choice. |The room is clean and well-maintained. Hay mattress and quilts are all clean, though the open-air onsen pool inside the room may be renovated to have a better appearance. Like other onsen inns, all staff I met are very polite and friendly. As this hotel seems not a favourite of package tour groups, it was quiet and cozy during my stay. Some staff speak English. |One free shuttle bus runs between hotel (10:30am) and Hakata Station(1:00pm), try to use it since the location of the hotel is not accessible. If you choose to arrive by driving, the hotel has large car park. But please be reminded that some roads and bridges leading to hotel are quite narrow and therefore be careful of vehicles in opposite direction. On holiday when shuttle bus is not available, ask hotel staff to pick you up from JR Chikugo Yoshii station. |Yoshii is a small town with some traditional houses and heritages. Recommend to stay 2 nights to have some time...

I stayed at the View Hotel Heisei for one night on business. The room was a traditional Japanese style room with a western style bedroom. The balcony had an amazing view of the area. The size of the room was quite good compared to standard hotels in Japan, but this was expected since it is more of a resort style hotel. The natural rock outdoor bathing area was a nice way to relax after a half day of travelling, the cool fall air and the lights of the valley made it particularly special. There were 2 areas in the waters, hot and hotter as well as a dry sauna. There was also in indoor bath which I did not have the opportunity to check out. Breakfast was included and it was Japanese style, not my cup of tea, but the presentation was excellent. Overall a very nice stay!

Somehow inconvenient if you travel by JR. Need to change and go there by taxi. If you can take a few minutes walk , you will enjoy nice beautufl sceneries from the hill-top. There is aslo a big stature of goddess nearby. The room I went was nice and tidy, with a semi-open air bath. Thanks for the hotel staff who explained to me how to operate various utilities inside the room. I think she is the only staff who can speak english in that hotel. Onsen quality was so so. Not particularly superb. Dinner and breakfast were perfect and probably one of the best near Kurume area. There is a small shuttle that can bring you back to Fukuoka, but its better to confirm in advance becoz of limited capacity, and there is not much space for bags and luggages.

We stayed in the special Japanese-style room with a panoramic view of Chikugo Plain. The room and the hotel in general seem old but the view is amazing. The open-air onsen was beautiful but with only 4 spots for showering, it could easily get crowded. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying with just the right quantity of food. Special mention for the gentleman who served us at dinner - very polite and helpful. If the hotel did some renovation/renewal, it could potentially enhance the overall experience.
