Guest House en — Hotel in Fujiyoshida

(PSA!) To start things off there is no way to know for certain whether my experience was due to the guest house/host or not but what happened was very suspicious. I am not blaming the host, could've been someone else but regardless take extra caution and make sure not to leave any big bills behind. We arrived and put our belongings away after checking in through the phone because the host was not there. I double checked my stuff before leaving and locked the door. We then went out to appreciate the beauty of Mt. Fuji. About 5 hours later we returned and headed to the room. Immediately I noticed one of my zippers open on my backpack, which I made sure was fully closed before I left. I checked and it was the zipper with my money in it. All of my $100 US bills were missing. Nearly $1000 USD or around 140000 yen when exchanged. The smaller bills weren't touched strangely. I went to the host and asked if she had any cameras or if anyone else had access to unlock the doors because my money was stolen. She said she only had one camera in the front and no one else had access. Now this is where things got suspicious: She said that no one else was there when we checked in but we clearly heard someone walking around when we arrived earlier that day. We asked the guests from that room and they verified they weren't there at the time so I'm not sure who was in their room. They double checked their belongings and they were fine but they also didn't have any big bills or large amounts of money on them. She also kept asking me if I was sure if I locked the door, but later on when the police arrived she stated that she knocked on our door for payment while we were gone and it was locked which she failed to mention to us earlier plus it doesn't make sense why she would try the door handle if we didn't answer to her knocks. Also her camera was not recording that day because she was out all day apparently otherwise normally it's always recording. My laptop and camera weren't touched but it's possible because they are easier to track. The host also said that the area is so safe that she doesn't even lock her own doors which is not true because when we had arrived earlier looking for the host we had tried the office door and it was locked. The whole thing was just strange because she would be the only one with access since we locked the door, which she verified with the police that we did lock it. Regardless of whether the host was involved or not, just be cautious and stay safe!

Aside from that experience the room was quite nice and the view from the balcony is wonderful. Definitely a beautiful place to stay...

We were very pleased with the service and experience we received at Guest House En.

The owner was very kind and accommodating—she came to pick us up at the train station upon request as part of our accommodation package.

After she has picked us up, she helped situate us in a large ryokan style room that could house up to 5 people. During the initial tour of our accommodation, she demonstrated how everything worked in the room (i.e. the aircond, where we should store our bags, etc.) and around Guest House En.

Once we became familiar with our rooms, the hostess gave us both dried and fresh persimmons as a welcome snack—it was absolutely delicious!

Not only did the hostess/owner go above and beyond when it came to welcoming us to Guest House En, she also became our impromptu tour guide around Fujiyoshida during our stay. We had hired her to bring us to the best locations and views Fujiyoshida had to offer, and she did not disappoint!

After our tour, she provided us with some wonderful kimchi as a post-tour snack 😌

Honestly, I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed our stay at Guest House En, but I won’t; instead, I’ll just leave a quick summary of the highlights of our stay:

Great view of Mt. Fuji from the entrance. Great service. Accommodating staff. Easy bike service. Smooth pick up and drop off process at the train station. Fast response from the staff. Spacious room and bathroom. Reasonable booking fees. Great value.

In short, I’d definitely stay at Guest House En again!
