Ember Lodge has been our home away from home for the last 2 weeks. Mike, Leo and the team are exceptional hosts. Mike’s communication and coordination prior to our stay was so helpful with our planning. During our stay, we noted the care that is given to all guests and were very grateful for the friendly hospitality we received. We received assistance with lift tickets, some discounted lift tickets, and insider knowledge of the best places for uncrowded powder. Great care was given when we were sick, nothing was too much to ask.
The location is unbeatable, a short walk to the gondola or chairlift each morning. Access to 3 mountains that are all linked - Goryu Escal Plaza, Iimori and Hakuba 47 for great variety of runs. We were assisted to book lessons at Iimori for our children and an easy shuttle ride there, if your kids are bigger you can ski over. Escal Plaza has a great indoor play area that kept our 4 year old entertained for hours. The shuttle buses can get you all over Hakuba when planning to ski other mountains. Next time though with a family we would look at hiring a car for more exploring and ease of getting to shops etc, Ubers can be a bit hard to come by at peak times.
Our family of 5 was very happily accommodated in 3 adjoining rooms with an en-suite. We loved the variety of hot breakfasts served each morning with the staples of toast, cereal, porridge, tea and coffee each day as well. The dinners offered were sensational and very reasonably priced, with great variety. There are other dinner options available in easy walking distance if you’re after a night out. Night skiing is also available at Escal Plaza.
The lodge is equipped with a drying room for ski gear, a laundry with washing machine, a common area with lounge and games to play, tables for meals. There is also a projector in the main area for movies and music. The rooms are simple, but very clean and warm.

Read moreWe stayed at Ember Lodge for four nights and had an amazing experience. The location is excellent—just a short walk to Escal Plaza, the main hub of the Goryu Ski Resort. Mike, the new owner, has done a fantastic job renovating the lodge into a warm, comfortable, and relaxed retreat.
Our group of six stayed in Room 210, which offered plenty of space and included an ensuite bathroom. The beds were very comfortable, and the bed linen was soft and cosy. Each morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast featuring a warm dish alongside a small buffet of fruit and toast, complemented by great coffee.
In the afternoons, we appreciated the chance to unwind with a few drinks and friendly chats with other guests. Mike is an exceptional host, providing local insights and service that went above and beyond our expectations. He made our kids feel especially welcome and created a relaxed atmosphere, ensuring we never felt like they were a disruption to other guests.
Overall, Ember Lodge is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a welcoming and comfortable...

The lodge is right by the ski lifts (Goryu Escal) so it’s super easy to wake up and get on the first lifts! Escal is connected to Goryu Imori and Hakuba 47 so it becomes a massive resort with all the runs so you’re spoilt for choice!
Mike is an incredible host and he made sure we always had everything we needed. For one of the powder days he took us to 47 nice and early to get Some freshies & also Gave us a tour of some nice tree runs
Rooms are cozy as they have floor heating, toilets and showers are clean. Breakfast is simple & just what we need for a nice pick me up before heading out to ride. The lodge offers dinner every night (if you want). We did 2 nights - shabu shabu and a steak bbq night it was delicious!
Massive shoutout to Leo for cooking our breakfast and dinners 🙂
The lodge is around 15 mins drive to Happo. You can easily take the shuttle bus to get to the other resorts (buses came every 10-15 mins, the stop is also close by the lodge).
