Hostel in Hashimoto saved my pilgrimage trip to Koyasan! Due to the train delay, I couldn't finish my transfer to Kudoyama the same day. (In Kudoyama the pilgrimage hike to Mount Koya/Koyasan starts). It was getting dark and I went to knock on the door of Hostel in Hashimoto for help. They offered me a single room, which was super clean, everything was in white color, even the walls were like new, modern private bathroom with a bathtub, room with kettle, excellent soft pillow and warm duvet. All looked new. Kindness of owners and quality of the room, even private one, which I didn't expect from a hostel in small town, touched me. They took care of me with hospitality that gives you only close family, offered me to store my big backpack with them overnight and do the hike with only a small backpack, which ended up being another saving grace of my trip. I had the easiest access to train station. Great location! Only 2 minutes walking in the early morning to take a train to Kudoyama. I spent the next night in Koysan at a temple and coming back down next day afternoon they were there for me at promissed time that I could pick up quickly my big backpack and continue to my trip to Kyoto. Exactly at the agreed time, kind and caring. They speak enough English to avoid misunderstandings! I will never forget this hostel, it has no faults, it has wonderful owners, perfect cleanliness, even private rooms, it is only two minutes walk from the train station and you can store your luggage there. I heard that the food is great as well, but I didnt have time to try. I thank the owners from the bottom of...
Read moreReally friendly owners, clean room and great Japanese breakfast. Highly recommended for those visiting Koyasan. Why pay triple + the price to stay in Koyasan? A day trip there is sufficient. This is the place to stay. 3 minute walk to the station. Catch the 7:54 and be in Koyasan around 9. Great bakery nearby. The yakitori place near the station is a good option for dinner. Oh, and don’t forget to go to Yunosato (onsen) on the free shuttle bus from Hashimoto Station. Booking the hotel may seem tricky for non-Japanese speakers but give them a call. The guy there speaks pretty good English. They’re pretty relaxed about check-in times, too. As they are not there all the time they just want to know what time you will arrive so they can be there to meet you and hand...
Read moreIt's a nice, cosy place with a friendly owner. He did everything to give us a pleasant stay. The hotel lies near the train station and a family mart is next to it. Further it's the perfect starting poimt for the pilgram trail to Koya-san. You can start there by foot or train - I can recommend both. From Kudoyama you will hike around 23-25km and 600-800hm. It took us approx. 7 hours to arrive at...
