Pros: ||||Famed for its powdery snow for skiing, this off-the-beaten-track hotel is a scenic sanctuary even for those who only want a good repose and an onsen stay. It exudes an old-world charm, complete with a fireplace, and a somewhat formal and restrained welcome from two distinguished septuagenarian males on reception duty - probably owners of the establishment. There are a significant number of older workers, who are robust and nimble, and occasionally, one can see them quietly and steadily chopping up firewood and tending to the fireplace - the very picture of Japanese steadfastness, tenacity and longevity.||||This hotel also serves as a good base for exploring the Daisetsuzan National Park and Mt. Daisetsu. If you are a meditative person looking for some light exercise, you will enjoy the easy walk up a little hill - this path is at the back of the hotel near the carpark. We also explored the beautiful grounds of nearby hotels.||||Needless to say, the century-old indoor onsen baths are the pride of the establishment, but the newer onsen area features a small open-air bath that visitors may prefer. All of the onsen baths are perfect to while away the hours.||||Food was top-notch, delicious and worthy of a Michelin mention. The ingredients were fresh and exquisitely-presented. While we were not fans of the deer meat shabu-shabu, the melon soup, abalone, coffee pudding and other dishes were tasty. If you are one for good conversations, you will also enjoy hanging out in a cozy lounge with complimentary drinks (self-service).||||Cons:||||Despite arriving in autumn, the mercurial winds brought about wintry weather and heavy snowfall. While it was initially magical, the weather did not improve during our 2-day stay. And the snow and poor visibility eventually thwarted our plans to take the gondola up to the mountains. Therefore, it can get a little dull after a while, since there isn't very much else to do inside the hotel, save for more onsen dips and shopping at a tiny store selling trinkets, jewellery and snacks. Do bring along some warm clothing for inclement weather and perhaps some books and games too. If you could afford the cost, we would recommend a longer stay. At a premium price, the rooms were also admittedly smaller than what...

Read moreWe stayed at this hotel before going to Furano. ||||It took about an hour from the Asahikawa station,so the access was not good. The final start of dinner time is 6:30 p.m. ,so you should reach hotel beforehand.||||The dinner was excellent . The cold soup poured into the cutting half melon was very delicious. Of course you could eat juicy melon. Big abalone steamed in the salt dome was very tender. By and large, the quantity was just right.||||the hot spring at the hotel was very good. The water was flowing directly from the hot spring source, and because of the difficult access, it`s known as a preservation hotel of secret hot spring . There are two hot spring facilities ,so we can select which to get into.||I got into the 「water of gods」at night, and the 「water of Yukoman」in the morning.||Both of them are made of wood and tasteful. Open air water in the morning was feeling good.||||The environs around the hotel was nothing,so we had a good sleep.||||Next morning ,we had a typical Japanese breakfast.||That was awesome, too. Boiled tofu and raw egg mixed with white rice was impressive.||||My partner taught me that this hotel is a home ||of famous Japanese snowboard player , Tomoka Takeuchi.||I cheered her in the Sochi olympic,so we looked on the exhibition room in the hotel.
