Update on 13 Mar, 2024 - I encountered significant challenges during my stay at the hotel. Despite relying on the provided bus schedule for my travel plans from Madarao to Myoko Kogen on 3rd March, I discovered that the scheduled bus had ceased operation on 1st March. When I approached the reception for assistance, I was informed that I should have checked the bus company's website for the most up-to-date information and that the hotel does not take responsibility for bus operations. Furthermore, their suggestion of taking a taxi for a 1-hour journey to Myoko Kogen added to the inconvenience.
THIS HOTEL IS NOT EVEN WORTH FOR 1 STAR!!
Location: excellent, ski in and out, bus stop just outside the hotel Room: ok condition, not enough lighting in the room Food: buffet style, food are not bad
We had reserved a package for 4 people (2 couples) which included a specific condition: staying in separate rooms on the first night and moving to a 4-person room on the second night. Upon check-in, the reception informed us that we could stay in separate rooms for both nights, which initially pleased us. However, around noon on the second day, we received a call instructing us to vacate one of the rooms, as all 4 of us were to stay in one room on the second night. This sudden change necessitated a complete room cleanup and incurred a late check-out fee. We were disappointed that this information was not communicated during check-in, as it resulted in a rushed return from the ski field. Had we been informed earlier, we would have packed up in the morning and transitioned to the other room. The lack of an apology and the implication that we should have been aware of these details added to our frustration.
Make sure it is all clear when check in or just...
Read moreLove this hotel. The key ingredient: the staff, so very friendly and polite. Especially Uda at the front desk, she was always cheerful, attentive, and went out of her way many times to see to our needs. She is the perfect representative of everything friendly and positive about this resort experience. This was our first ski trip to Japan and the amenities are such a pleasant surprise. The hotel has its own ski rental, lift tickets sold right outside the door, 2 different restaurants, and its own onsen. Which was a new and lovely experience for me. The hotel is a bit older, and the bathroom is small for western standards, but the bidet more than made up for that ( love it ) and the onsen took care of the daily bathing ritual ( for me ). Ski locker area was generous and convenient, heat worked well in the room, and wi-fi worked throughout the hotel. The restaurants were a nice convenience, we paid extra for breakfast and dinner buffet vouchers, and it was fun wearing our provided yukata (robes) all day in the hotel ( not required ). The ski runs are well marked, and the ski lodges had delicious Japanese fare that blew our minds. And the Madapow! ( Madarao powder ) generously snowed down on us. Overall, would highly recommend Madarao Kogen Hotel. Again, arigato gozaimasu to Uda and the entire hotel staff that made our 3 day stay so very lovely and relaxing. Would definitely...
