3rd time staying here.|Yamanaka onsen is charming in all seasons and at this time of year there is a great deal for return transportation to/from Nagoya.|The bus arrives at the Yamanaka Grand Hotel and then a smaller shuttle bus takes guests to Yoshinoya and the female only Saichoraku.|The staff have changed at Yoshinoya and there was a distinct lack of customer service or ometenashi on this occasion.|Checkout is now self-service.There was no comment made by the staff...(thank you for staying, was everything ok...have a safe trip home!)|Room was in the older part of the hotel unfortunately. While the room was adequate and large...the bathroom was in need of an upgrade...especially the sink (there s just a toilet and sink in these rooms...no bath or shower)|Wifi was good though and the rooms are charming looking down onto the river and the trees on the other side of the river.|Dinner was offered at 3 different times but we had to eat at 6.30 and this was served in an area of the hotel next to the Noh theater...not the normal restaurant on the 8th floor.|There was no atmosphere in this area and there was a feeling of being hidden out of the way.|No English explanations whatsoever about what was being offered and the food while good, was served as quickly as possible!|Breakfast was busy from 7 am...again at 7.45..there s a lot of queuing for food at these times.|The baths are as good as always...and plum wine and sake was available in the outside bath until 9pm.|The English signage has improved slightly since our last visit in 2016....but guest will struggle without a Japanese speaker.|Other Yukai resort properties might appeal more to foreign guests as the buffet style makes food selection much easier for dinner.|Stay here only if you can get a room in the main part...
Read moreStayed at this hotel having taken a bath there a few days before.||This hotel is a Yukai club property and the customer service here was excellent. There was heavy snow while we stayed and we were able to borrow snow boots and umbrellas while we were out and about.||The hot spring baths are beautiful looking down onto the river at Yamanaka onsen.||There are two types of room it seems. We stayed in the older type. These rooms are in need of a update with regard to the state of the carpets and there is only a toilet and sink (no bathroom)Having said that the room was very large and the air-conditioning did a good job of keeping the room warm. There is a small seating area looking out over the river and onto the trees which is especially beautiful at this time of year.||Food is buffet-style for breakfast but served at your table for dinner which is a nice touch as the restaurant is on the 8th floor and has been re-furbished.||This hotel has a great location on the main street in Yamanaka onsen and it is an easy walk to the main sightseeing spots and the shops, restaurants and convenience store.||Another added benefit is that you can make use of the return bus service from Nagoya,Osaka and Kyoto for 3000 yen.||This is definitely one grade up from the main Yukai Resort properties. The quality of food is better and the hot spring baths are some of the nicest I have been to of those offered at Yukai resort hotels.||Well worth a visit and the small...
Read moreWent back to Yoshinoya after a two year gap.||Upgraded to a refurbished room on the 6th floor (624)||Very quiet and great location for the lifts to the 8th floor restaurant, the Karaoke and table tennis on the 7th floor and the bath in the basement.||The location in Yamanaka onsen is excellent (on the main street) so it's easy to stroll to the shops and restaurants as well as along the river. There is a Circle K convenience store 5 minutes walk away.||While the room and baths were equally as impressive as the first time I stayed...the quality of food in the restaurant and the general level of customer service has fallen.||The dinner was served as quickly as possible so there was no time to relax while eating and there was no menu of any description or explanation about the dishes.Breakfast was also disappointing as the self-service area is small and when busy, guests had to queue for a long time and there were no English signs to explain what was on offer.||Yoshinoya is still one of the nicer Yukai club properties but it wasn't as polished on...
