Yukai Resort New Maruya Hotel — Hotel in Kaga

Chose to stay at this member of the Yukai resort group having taken a bath there last year.||From the outside the hotel looks relatively new compared to some of the other Yukai Resort properties and the rooms look out onto the lake over the outdoor swimming pool.||The rooms are large with a toilet and small bathroom (shower and sunken bath-tub) but don't look too closely at the fixtures (the carpets are worn, the sinks are relatively old-fashioned, stained and dusty)||||Having said this the New Maruya has three things going for it:||||1. The hot spring baths. There is a large indoor bath and a fair sized outdoor bath. The view from the indoor bath is onto the lake..but unfortunately right now there is some sort of construction going on on the path in front of the men's bath so it's not the most comfortable feeling taking a bath in the day-time as there was a lot of activity outside.||||2. The customer service at reception and in the restaurant was excellent. There was heavy snow in this area when I stayed and I was given a pair of wellington boots to use. Also the food offered at the Yukai resort hotels is a good introduction for foreign people looking for a Japanese experience (sushi,tempura,noodles,miso soup etc). Also the staff were all incredibly friendly and provided everything that I asked for.(you will need basic Japanese to stay here...as no one spoke English)||||3. The view. Maybe because of corona they haven't had time to clean the rooms or washrooms but my toilet looked like it wasn't flushed in over 4 months. There was a thick film of old water and it was dirty. The whole facility looked really run down. I don't mind old. But I do mind if it's dirty.

The food was bentos for dinner and breakfast. The hotsprings were nice and hot. And the game center was open and absolutely an awesome place to spend time doing air hockey. And yes,...
