As a female solo-traveler in this remote island, and after spending 6 days in the mainland of Okinawa, I'm just expecting people to be just as nice in this remote Island of Kumejima, Yes - so far so great, I got a cab from the Ferry terminal and got to Kumejima Eef Beach Hotel. Got checked-in, the guy at the reception was amazingly nice and friendly, and helped me out a lot on car rental, where to go for food and everything, exceptional service you'd expect at a resort! However, everyone else from the reception, meh, not so much. These two female staffs especially, no smile no nothing. Anyhow, didn't want to get down by them so I just got on with it. ||||I stayed for a total of two nights. When i returned at night, I had a couple more questions, so I went to the reception and the male receptionist was still very helpful. Next day (i.e. day 2 and 3), the male receptionist was off, so there was another female staff. Wow, yeah, she smiled at first, but immediately after would pull long face. The more question I ask, the more annoyed she was getting. Honestly, not okay. I asked if she knew whether I could return my car earlier than planned, she told me to call the car rental agency myself. Wow, are you serious? So i said well I dont speak the language, can you ask for me? She didnt respond but just picked up the phone very unwillingly. ||||Day 3 - the day for my check-out. I meant to return the car key to the reception and check out at 11am. I returned the car key at 1030am and it was the same female staff. She was like oh okay, thanks, what about your room key. I said, well I dont have to check out yet right? Then she cold-ly responded and just let me go. Honestly - what's with the bad attitude? ||||All in all, aside from the no-smile female receptionist, in general, everyone else from the resort was very nice. Especially the couple staffs at the restaurant, one of them was so sweet she started chatting with me after breakfast. ||||I would recommend this resort as it's quite nice and simple, very clean. Note, the air-con isn't so breezy at all, got quite heated up during my sleep, and I'm staying during December, can't imagine how hot it'd...
Read moreI had an horrible experience. Even if the staff at reception is very gentle, unfortunately the hotel looks very different from the booking apps.
It’s old, and even if you book a “renovated room, they basically did not changed nothing.
The room was without remote AC control, so the temperature of your room is managed by the reception.
The furnitures are very old and full of humidity.
The wall are dirty.
The beds are old and you can feel the metal springs on your body.
The view is not nice because yes you have the ocean in front, but on the right side there’s a football camp abandoned and the main swimming pool was dirty and not working.
The Onsen is tiny like a Bathub and you must even bring your own towels, because there’s not a towel service there.
The restaurant of the hotel is closed at lunch. So you must to sorted out your lunch by yourself going around in a Isolated island.
The room is food mold, so good luck with allergies.
I felt a Hostel for backpackers would be better.
If you want to get around and you don’t have a car, they even charge the rent for bicycles, which in general in the others hotel is for free.
There are no taxi after 7pm, so you cannot decide to go somewhere else for dinner.
I felt in prison, not in a nice holiday.
I would...
Read moreEef Resort offers amazing beach views with outdoor showers, affordable nighly prices, and one of the best breakfast menus I've seen in 2-3 star hotels. They also have a great yakiniku experience in the late afternoon. The onsen is very relaxing and offers a first hand view of the Pacific Ocean. Rooms have powerful AC units, minimizing the natural Pacific heat and humidity.
However, the beds were hard as a rock, and there was severe mold in the lobby roof. Customer service, though not bad, was not very helpful. The bar was often closed during the weekend (no clear signs anywhere for hours of operation), and despite having vouchers for free drinks and ice cream, we only discovered them at checkout since they did not mention them during check-in. We couldn't use them as the convenience store was closed when we were checking out of the hotel. The bartender serving drinks during one of the few times they opened the bar, did no know how to prepare any drink and had to leave the bar to find someone in the kitchen area to help with bar duties, Additionally, the outside of the hotel needs a deep clean as it looks abandoned.
In summary, Eef Resort can be a decent option for a couple of nights in Kumejima, but keep your...
