This hotel is literally only a few steps to the JR railway station and Shinkansen tracks that can be accessed by elevator at footpath level.||The hotel is very clean and modern and very cheap compared to Kyoto which is only about 20 minutes away via Shinkansen or an hour on super express.||Whilst Maibara itself does not have much to commend it is roughly midway between Hikone and Nagahama, both can be reached by train and covered in a single day.||We had a room on the 13th floor, hence overlooked to town and railway.||Staff were all good, although very limited English.||Japanese breakfast was great with fresh supplies of food constantly coming from the kitchen.||All of the Toyoko Inn...

Read moreThis hotel is in a perfect location right next to Maibara station. Whilst there aren't many dining options around, there is a supermarket on the other side of the road and a convenience store around the corner. We went to an Izakaya nearby for dinner, which we wished was non-smoking. The hotel's free breakfast was very helpful as we were catching a shuttle bus to Okuibuki ski resort the next morning. ||The room is bigger than a standard hotel in Kyoto and is well kept.
