Spent two nights here.|The hotel is looking a little tired in certain areas....especially some of the bedrooms in the older part of the hotel are downright shabby!|The communal areas have been refurbished somewhat but the rooms are of different quality...try to get one in the refurbished part of the hotel...you have to pay an extra fee but it's well worth it...the rooms with their own private outdoor bath are excellent.|The restaurant was relatively small for the number of guests...especially on a Friday night/Saturday morning and as with all Yukai Resort properties there is limited English signage in the restaurant and bathing areas. There is no English in the lobby area on the information boards or elsewhere so you ll need to ask if you need anything.Iwata San spoke a little English and offered a good level of customer service.|The food on offer is simple Japanese fare with a few western dishes.|The best thing about this hotel is the baths. The outside bath at the front of the hotel is split over a 24 hour period between men's time and women's time.|Again the indoor baths in the basement area change over between 1am and 2 am so you get the chance to experience all the baths during your stay. From Friday - Sunday many families come to stay so try to avoid the weekends if you're looking for a truly relaxing experience.|There are massage chairs available but they are grouped closely together in one small area so it's difficult to relax.|There is a convenience store about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel if you need anything and it's a 15-20 minute walk in the opposite direction to the Yubara onsen area.|The central area had no atmosphere at this time of year. There were only a few places to eat there and a number of abandoned or closed buildings...but Hakkei near the famous Sunoyu riverside baths allow outside guests to use their hot springs between 11am - 2 pm for a 1000 yen fee (bath towel is available for 500 yen so take your own... or use the smaller towels available in the changing room areas)|All in all Yukai resorts offer great value for an overnight stay with 2 meals...
Read moreFirst of all, this place looks terrible from the road. The side facing the river is concrete and looks old and dirty. However the side facing the entrance looks OK. I only paid $69/night with both meals so I did not anticipate much. All rooms face a river next to the main road so the view was not bad. If you expect to be pampered by staff that are at your beck and call than look elsewhere - it's your loss. The rooms are typical hotel/ryokan type, but you have to make your own futon mattress. The meals were something else. Yes, they are buffet, but with a really nice assortment of dishes. Breakfast was something I've never seen traveling and living 16 years in Japan: you are provided with a grill with wax-fed flame, and you have your choice of 3 (THREE) types of fish to cook! Sea bream, a small flounder, and I forget the third; I think split mackeral. The flounder was delicious and I ate two of them. If I am ever in the area again, I will go out of the way to stay here, and a good deal on the meals is what I look for in...
