We must have picked a great time to visit (Sun - Tues), because there were not many other guests here and it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. The private onsen bath (included in the price of booking, just need to reserve the day before/ day of) was incredible, especially at 6AM when the sun is peaking in. The staff was incredible, felt very personable, and delivered the best possible service you could ask for. We had dinner both nights we were there, we lost count of how many courses it was but It was one of the best and most memorable dinners we can imagine having. Meals served are traditional Japanese style so don't expect to order from a menu, and I don't know if they have any options for the non-adventurous eater. ||||We had a last minute issue with a rental car from Takayama, and luckily there were busses running quite often (don't think it was more than a 1.5 hour ride) that stopped a 5 minute walk from the Onsen. Despite the short distance, the staff insisted on picking us up and we felt like royalty. We only stayed 2 nights but it felt like at least a weeks's worth of rest and rejuvenation. We did not have to lift a finger and quite enjoyed both the Traditional Yukata that we picked upon arrival, and the Japanese Pajamas, both of which we were free to wear during our entire stay there (including to dinner). It's a very relaxed atmosphere, and while our stay occurred during a seasonal change, I can imagine that during fall the scenery can't be beat. The outdoor public style (gender seperated) onsens were also great, and due to there being few guest while we were there, we could actually use them as private onsens (all included in the price of the booking).||||Owner/Manager was very personable and did his best to explain all the courses that were prepared, and to offer us activities during the day (snowshoe or hiking), which we politely declined because we were enjoying ourselves too much just relaxing in the Zen atmosphere of this Onsen. Would recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all for a day or two, I think two nights there is a good balance of price...

Read moreI stayed in this ryokan for 1 night on 14 of June. I planned to stay in Shirahone hot spring originally but found this ryokan accidentally. I shifted to this one as I liked to try the private outdoor bath inside the room. I found that I made a right choice. Right after I made the booking, they already emailed me to check about the meal and gave me advice about the transportation. When I arrived, the staff spent nearly one hour trying to sort out my transportation (through a combination of taxi & bus) on the following day. I experienced great hospitality & meticulous service here. ||||The dining experience was also fantastic. Each group of guests (including me who travelled solo) had a private space for dining. Staff members of the ryokan would come & explain each course during the menu. They have plenty of staff serving 8 rooms of guests whereas another ryokan which I stayed afterwards had only 1 staff taking care of more than 10 rooms of clients. A bottle of fresh Hida milk was delivered to my room early morning. The room has abundant space as well as an outdoor area with nicely designed private hot spring. I also tried the outdoor common bath and it was so beautiful as well.||||The slight drawback (from my point of view) is that the location is not very onsen-like as it is next to a carpark and a road is located...
