An old luxury hotel that has been converted into a family resort. The hotel and its grounds are massive â I donât recall ever seeing such a large complex, with a golf course and clubhouse, a football field, a conference center, and so on.
The hotel area is so enormous that it is unlikely to ever be profitable, and for cost reasons maintenance has clearly started to be neglected, with the exterior beginning to deteriorate.
The hotel is located so far from the city that a car or taxi is essential. There is also a shuttle bus available, but it runs infrequently.
Service at the hotel was good and fast, but nowhere near what you would expect from higher-end hotels, let alone true luxury hotels.
Even though the hotel is huge, it has not been designed for its current use as a family vacation spot. I have never seen such a crowded pool area, with so many children and families in the water that there was not even a meter of personal space. There are only a couple dozen seats, but an enormous number of guests. This was the situation every single day.
The hotel also has a strange double standard when it comes to tattoo policy, which applies only to foreign tourists but not locals. Staff asked us to cover our tattoos, which was fine â we bought tape and covered them. However, we noticed that every day there were local guests at the pool with multiple tattoos, and staff allowed them to show them openly on several occasions. I have never experienced anything like this in Japan.
For breakfast, you have to arrive before 7:00 a.m. if you want to avoid a 30â60 minute wait. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel in this price range. The hotel also offers other dining locations, for example in the conference center, but eating there is like being at a food fair, with a much smaller selection than at the main breakfast. This also clearly shows that the hotel was not designed for this kind of operation.
There are areas in the hotel that are completely empty, filled with old furniture. It is obvious that the current owner does not know what to do with all the space. A very eerie place â a truly unusual experience.
The views from the upper-floor rooms are fantastic, the onsen is beautiful, the breakfast is good, and room service and cleanliness are impeccable.
This review is written about what was once a luxury hotel â but it is definitely not one anymore. It is, however, a very good...

Easily the most worthwhile hotel in Miyazaki but unfortunately they are dropping off the Sheraton brand, which means going off Marriott booking platform... Therefore Marriott won't have a 5 star offering in Miyazaki anymore and that leaves very limited top notch offerings in the Kyushu region.
