The BEST hotel for couples and quiet time! my husband and I took months to plan our honeymoon and we finally chose One Suite The Grand for our 2 weeks stay with them. Thank you to the One Suite Management for creating this hotel and experience with your team. I smile and teared a little when I needed to depart to airport. the hotel is located on a higher ground from the beach but that's okay, cause the hotel do provide private shuttle around the island and there's e-bike if you need. Absolutely a great place for resting, people in Okinawa rest very early.
The hotel design : low density, minimalist and elegant. The architecture, furniture, bathtub, bathroom amenities, music speaker at the restaurant, snacks and coffee in the room and SPA pool was nicely curated. The pillow is on softer side, if you need more pillow, you can request from the front desk. The pool is good for resting and sunset photo taking.
The room and bathroom: Its very spacious and it comes with sea view. There is spacious balcony and sofa for reading and relaxing. The housekeeping keeps the room very clean and organized. every alternate day, they will drop us a note. I love the pillow spray so much!
Pool, Weekend Yoga and Happy Hour! There's happy hour from 1400hrs to 1800hrs with free flow of beer and snacks. my husband love the perks. and the hotel organize free weekend yoga at 0700hrs. the instructor only speaks japanese, so, I struggled a little on the movement but I managed to follow through.
Breakfast and Dinner: The BEST and my Ikaigai! haha. Because of the breakfast team and Chef Kajiwara-san. Imagine waking up 2 weeks with smiling face and I could sense the sincerity beyond just a job. Chef would come out occasionally and greeted us. Yukiko and Akiko would spend time sharing okinawa and tips. Taichiro make sure to make me a good coffee. the team in One Suite The Grand (all of them) always take extra step for the customers. I only spoke to Akiko, Yukiko and Taichiro. They remember when to serve my coffee, which food need extra condiments and what's my favorite food. They even surprised me with the food that I didn't expect such as papaya! The team made our stay very memorable. The Dinner is a MUST TRY. slightly on higher price and highly recommended cause they serve quality food. they have dinner courses and ala carte (limited option). For ala carte, must try the beef steak rice, it melts in my mouth. I tried Shabu-shabu, course meal and ala carte. the Agu pork shabu-shabu was so good and filling and the course menu (private room counter table) is an experience with quality sushi, and tempura. They have quite a wide range of sake, we took the tasting menu.
The SPA and Aqua Area - The SPA, Gym, Sauna and Pool are located in a different building. I love the gym room, pretty complete equipment for a holiday. I love the cold bath and sauna too. There is locker room to keep my items or change. The SPA is located upstairs of the gym. got to try the massage. I went twice! Chie was my therapist. I love strong massage, so I requested for less oil and focus on deep tissue technique. I slept like a baby after the massage.
The services, food and the team exceeded our expectation. As a traveler, the team deserves an Excellent 10/10 for their outstanding quality of services. Quite a number of the hotel staff speaks English. The team surprised us so much that I think my husband needs to catch up with his surprises now. hahaha!
I remember Lila who welcome us, Akiko took time and explained the beautiful Okinawa, Megumi and Chie talked about the SPA, and of course, Yukiko who greeted me almost every morning during breakfast with Taichiro! Ryuta who takes care of our daily needs and request from front counter.
Activity Worth Considering: Milky way photoshoot with professional photographer. It's rare and It's worth the money. the last time I saw milky way galaxy was road trip to Austria.
To all the One Suite The Grand Team, thank you for taking good care of us whether is sunny or rainy days. Tim-san and I...
Read moreProbably one of the most controversial reviews I've ever had to write. While on the one hand, the place is honestly cared for down to the smallest details, with countless comforts, courteous and professional staff, and refined and detailed cuisine, all of this clashes with certain aspects that, when also connected to the international clientele, at least in my opinion, weigh on the final score. Our plan included three dinners, each objectively identical between the first and second courses, to the point that we had to explicitly request a menu change. This request was fortunately granted, but honestly, something you wouldn't expect from a place of this caliber. You'd expect something surprising, exciting, and overwhelming, and unfortunately, that wasn't the case, despite the undeniable quality and freshness of the products. Added to this is the fact that for every small change to the meal, or even a simple refill of a small cup of objectively delicious soup, we were told we'd have to pay... I think it was perhaps 100 ml of product. It was certainly expensive, and the price was justified, but given the overall cost of staying here, you wouldn't expect that—at least, I didn't. Another issue is the English language, which, despite the modern IT tools available, and despite the kindness of the staff, has proven to be a communication barrier, something you wouldn't expect from a place of this caliber. Another factor that, as a smoker, I honestly didn't like is what they call a smoking area (I should point out that I fully accept smoking in a designated area). In any case, it consists of a hovel outside the building, without even a bench or chair, nestled between a wall/window and a perforated brick wall spaced perhaps less than 50 cm apart, all hidden behind some plants. Now, I understand there's a certain attitude towards tobacco in Japan, but I reiterate that, given the international clientele, giving a smoker the chance to not feel punished would be appreciated. I'll conclude with one last point. Although we declined to have our beds turned down at check-in (an example of linguistic misunderstanding), while we were showering with music on, at 7:30 PM we found a staff member in our room incessantly asking "excuse me." I understand that if you don't get a response, it could be because there's no one in the room and it's fine to make the bed, but if you knock, get no response, open the door, and hear music plus the sound of the shower, you don't stay in the room constantly asking "excuse me," you should immediately close the door and leave. In short, when I say "controversial" review, I mean that on the one hand, there's a lot that's positive and objectively special—the location, the spa, overall comfort, the quality of the food, and the kindness of the staff—but on the other hand, there are objectively some details that, for a place like this, can/should be improved—perhaps improved for me, improved based on my cultural approach, whatever you prefer, but improved. Thanks in any case for the experience, but 5 stars is too much for...
Read moreLong time traveller, first time reviewer. I was absolutely compelled to write this glowing review, as it took a lot of digging to even discover this hotel online, given the hotel's strong Asian focus and our family being from Australia. Indeed, when we were warmly greeted, we were told by our lovely host that we were the first Australian family to ever stay here. So in writing this, I hope it helps the hotel attract more international clientele.|From the moment we were greeted (by the wonderful Akiko, who happened to have spent time in Australia and spoke excellent English), to the moment we departed, the hotel couldn't have been more perfect. The architecture and design, the furniture, the brilliant views, the stunning and quaint Kouri Island setting (beautiful beaches, very good snorkelling), all made for a brilliant first impression. Then to our room where the impression continued - spacious, beautifully appointed with many inclusions, and as the hotel was quite new, everything worked perfectly.|Next, the restaurant, a beautiful space with stunning views over the ocean, served as a perfect setting for truly brilliant high end Japanese cuisine. Freshness and flavour in the food was paramount and the generosity was almost too much - sometimes we struggled to finish everything. And if you are a wine or sake lover, then you are in for a treat. We took the all inclusive package given the restaurant is quite expensive for Okinawa (but quite reasonable for high-end Japan), thinking of course that the wine and sake included would be modest at best. But we were absolutely blown away by a magnificently curated collection of wine and sake that were all included. Guided by food pairings by the sommelier, we were presented with an amazing selection of top Champagnes, Burgundies, Bordeaux and Italian wines, as well as serious high end sakes. As a wine professional, I was absolutely blown away and it made the whole experience truly memorable, as well as unbelievably good value.|One word of advice - whilst the hotel has stunning views of the ocean, it isn't on the beach. However, it is just a 15 minute walk, 5 minute e-bike ride (available at the hotel), or just take a complimentary lift from the resort staff.|Thank you to the wonderful staff for a truly memorable stay. I cannot recommend this hotel...
