Read moreWhile Nazuna is a very nice Ryokan in a beautiful setting, it is simply too expensive (JPY 72’100/night, without dinner) compared to other upscale places we have visited over the last decades in Japan:|- minimal toiletries (the ones you get at a 4* in Tokyo are often better)|- rather small outdoor onsen i.e. tub without constant waterflow (you need to push a button, and it takes quite some time to fill)|- amenities in the room pretty minimal as well, e.g. only jar of tap water in the small fridge|- room wasn’t properly cleaned when we arrived, and this to an extent, I was expecting we get another room, given we were the only guests that day. However, it was fixed by the staff promptly. Still, given the price - and heads-up of our arrival time by phone, well after regular check-in hours -, this simply needs to be checked before guests arrive.||The room (Kogakura-Chaboku, 55m2, but feels much much smaller) we had consisted of a separate, though windowless sitting area, a very modern and functional bathroom, outdoor onsen and a bedroom (a bit narrow) with couch, table and very large TV. Word of caution: If you are 175cm / 5’8” tall – luckily, we both aren’t -, you will not enjoy this hotel, as it is a historic building with low ceilings. Staff was friendly and helpful. There is a small lounge with free soft drinks and some sweets for guests to use. If you can get a good deal, go, but for more than 70’000 Yen/night we wouldn’t return and book elsewhere.||That said, Obi is a nice little town with many places to eat just a short...
It’s actually one of the most ridiculously overpriced onsen hotel I have ever been. We travel around Japan and have been living in many similar styled ryokans and rarely run into such disappointments. The hotel obviously has dinner option. But neither Expedia nor the hotel provide proper communication for such option. ( Just for comparison, for other hotels that are over 100,000 Yen / night, we always get email communications from the hotels about potential options pre arrival dates). We arrived at the hotel and then being told that we have no dinner because we didn’t choose it. I mean…I need to know about the options before we can choose it right ? Just one email about dinner options is definitely highly appreciated especially considering the prices that we are paying. Also, there is absolutely nothing in the room fridge. The previous hotel we stayed before this provides over 17 types of complimentary drinks. So you can tell the differences. And the so called onsen is basically just a bathtub in the yard. Hotel recommended us to a nearby sushi place for dinner and it’s nasty. The sushi maker took in cash bills by bare hands and went back to make sushi for us without even washing his hands. I would probably pay 1/3 or 1/2 of the prices for this place. It’s not a bad place. But it’s definitely not worth the price it charges. 200USD/night max. I can’t believe we got charged close to 700USD/ night for this. It’s...
Read moreThe setting is beautiful, and I must admit, a lot of work and planning went into it. However, there were some issues. We found a dirty sock from the previous occupants under the sofa cushions which itself seemed to slide out frequently. There was also no WiFi initially. When I complained, even though they knew it wasn't working, they questioned if I really needed it. Additionally, there were mosquitos in the room. For the price we paid, this was far below expectations. I would also not recommend the chicken Yakitori dinner restaurant they partner with. For that quality and price, you can find much better places nearby. Thanks, but this chain...
