Travelling as a group of 6 freeride friends we arrived at Kodama lodge and immediately knew we hit the jackpot not only for the quality of the lodge itself (location, style, cleanliness, etc) but also in having the owners, GG and Simon, there to make us feel at home and sharing their knowledge of the mountains and snow in the region.||We had one double room and one room for four with a mezzanine, both of which had plenty of space, were clean and had comfortable beds. The shared shower and bathroom facilities were always kept to the highest of standards.||The common areas of Kodama are unrivaled and a great place to meet everyone staying at the lodge. The dining area is spacious and also serves as a bar for a well deserved after ski beer (or two) and some Japanese snacks. Dinner is offered every other night and we all truly recommend signing up when it is as it was always plentiful and delicious. Breakfasts were the best with healthy hot and cold options to give you energy for your ski day. The Swiss styled lounge has plenty of seating for everyone to enjoy a film or just hang out and chat around the stove. ||When it comes to the skiing there is no place where you are going to get more helpful advice then at Kodama. The hosts check conditions nonstop and always ensure guests have the info they need to make the most of the pow days. ||GG and Simon were always happy to help out with non skiing advice as well as we checked out various restaurants in the region and planned a day off the snow to visit a different town.||There is so much more to say about this amazing place. Our entire group only wished we could stay longer and can’t...
Read moreManaged by a young Swiss couple, snowboarders, mountain aficionados with hospitality training and experience. Big lodge for Japanese standard, we like the vast common areas, difficult to find in Hakuba. Ideally located for the ones skiing in Norikura, Cortina and Tsugaike. A bit off-track for Hakuba Happo one and other resorts, and need to get one of the shuttles to go there - shuttle service from nearby Alps hotel unfortunately has bad schedule (i..e leave at 8:40am... meaning you start skiing in Hakuba Happo one at 10:30...) - but if you have a car, perfect. ||Good for young couples and families. Community-style dining place, which we like. If you want to stay independent maybe not the best place as rooms aren't big and WC and showers are shared facilities. ||Onsen nearby for a fee.||Few restaurants nearby so need to go to Tsugaike (10 mins by shuttle or around 800yen with taxi). Continental breakfast included (no Japanese option) and dinner proposed few times a week - Japanese inspired cooking, not traditional, which you can get in the nearby restaurants and Tsugaike, but quality ingredients. ||Not cheap but in Hakuba no place is cheap - clean, renovated. ||We recommend it. Many Swiss going there - so if you want to mix with locals not the best (am Swiss), but in Hakuba most tourists are Aussies, Kiwis or Asian - so this remains a...
