Hotel Tenbo Gunma — Hotel in Shibukawa

I chose this hotel becuase they have twin western room with 120cm wide (at least please!) beds:very difficult to find right bedding in Japan. Western style hotels in Japan very often offer twin beded rooms with single beds like around 100cm wide which make me feel like sleeping in a dorm, and hardly offer double room (which is a scandal for French! I suppose). ||||The hotel is located out of Ishidan(Stone Stairs) area, the centre of Ikaho Onsen district, but good five min.walk from it. It is off the main road and was quiet enough at night.||||The welcome by the hotel staff was warm and caring.||||I found the room with full potential. It is apparently dated. Only if renewed as it was made initially, I would just love it. The space and layout seem perfect for me. Unfortunately, the bed linen with brown spots,ventilation opening with dust, window having changed its colour for some time... A great pity.||||We did not opt for the hotel's pre-fixed dinner, but had a light meal at a Japanese restaurant in the hotel, but not so impressed. I would rather eat out next time.||||Buffet breakfast was OK.||||The hotel's public baths were mervelous with a variety of basins with different hot spring waters. ||||I hope they will revive the western rooms soon so that we...

Looks very old and outdated on the outside, but entering the hotel was a pleasant surprise - upscale Japanese style interior maintained to high level of cleanliness.

Rooms also stylishly furnished Japanese Ryokan style. A slight complaint is the hint of cigarette smell despite requests for non smoking rooms, though this may be a 1 off case of bad customers rather than a hotel issue.

There are plenty of banquet halls for parties and events, so that seems like a core business of the hotel. So I'm guessing this hotel is well suited for a large scale event for a group of visitors.

If you're visiting for the hotsprings, you definitely should check out the one on basement 1. Note that this hotspring alternates between male and female usages through different hours each day, so you'll have to figure out the right time to visit. The Rocky stone seems to be a theme, and I particularly enjoyed cooling on the long wooden benches (real comfortable 原木natural wood) between dips in...

The hotel is wonderful...Their in house eating place is fabulous. The setting juts into a beautiful forest - its as if you are eating your meals in the forest. Japanese robes are part of the room. Leave your American clothes in your suitcase and wear the robes everywhere. Walk to little quaint shops that are lovely. The hot springs were a new experience of me...a great one. Learn what the culture wants you to do before getting in. My son is a frequent traveler, his advice to me was to clean yourself from head to toe and take at least 10 minutes doing it. Others are watching and will love your company if you are as clean as they are; after all it is about sharing a bath nude. ...
