The kaseki dinner and breakfast was very weird. Of course we appreciated the traditional experience but it was way too traditional for me. A lot of raw fish, rare beef etc.. It's great for an experience but if you are picky I would not recommend it. We had trouble getting the "free shuttle" We arrived to the train station and there were only regular buses parked out front. We tried to ask if anyone knew about the shuttle but no one spoke English / didn't know about it. We went to the info desk which also spoke no English and even using google translate we could not communicate. I called the hotel (having to pay for that) to ask them where the shuttle is but they also spoke no english, did not understand what i was asking and said they were busy checking in guests so they could not help. Very unprofessional. We ended up finding the shuttle bus across the street in front of the bank .. but we didn't know it was the shuttle because no one could speak English or understand google translate enough to confirm. Apparently no one understand "hana no sato onsen" I guess you had to say "sansuikan." So we ended up taking a taxi and having to pay a ton for it which was really inconvenient since we rushed to catch the shuttle. That left a very bad taste in my mouth from the start.
Once I got over how upset I was about the hassle it was to arrive,, I did enjoy the room. It was spacious and traditional. The dinner was weird but a cool experience. The outdoor bath is amazing. Great view, great temperature and I loved the very cold water area to cool off with. The indoor baths were cool too. The massage chair inside was amazing I spent like an hour there. also it was nice to have vending machines with some drinks and snacks in the hotel. overall it was a relaxing, traditional, unique experience with a couple of bumps in the road. I recommend just taking a taxi to the hotel and avoid the trouble of finding that god...
Read moreWe booked this Ryokan for 1 night only to celebrate my husband’s birthday and our 5th marriage anniversary, as part of our 2.5 week long stay in Osaka. The booking included a Traditional Style Room with an outdoor private onsen, and two meals. The room was absolutely great, the traditional bed was a delight, the views of the river even better. The private onsen water was very hot, but given the cold temperature outside (it was February), it felt like heaven.
Despite the staff speaking little English, my own limited knowledge of Japanese coupled with the little wonders of technology the staff possessed for instantaneous translations, were enough to have us understand each other. The owners do speak English and we had the opportunity to meet up with them and talk a bit. The owner had even told us about the national Shogi competitions that took place there a few months earlier and he showed us pictures of it as well.
Each customer gets a nice set of Yukata to wear around the premises of the Ryokan. We used them to both visit the public onsen inside the Ryokan, as well as for the evening and morning meals. The public onsen both inside and outside were great. My husband and I really enjoyed them. The meals were absolutely delicious.
The dinner chosen by us included pheasant hot pot among other dishes as part of a 5 course meal. Breakfast was also a delight, and we tried out many new culinary inventions we hadn’t been aware of prior to our visit.
To get to the Ryokan and back to the Takatsuki Station, we used the available shuttle bus provided by the hosts, entirely free of charge. On our departure they warmly saw us off, adding to the beautiful experience.
The experience was certainly not cheap, but absolutely worth it. I think we will be definitely...
Read moreA trip I'll never forget! Everything from the location, the views, the baths, the food, and the staff were incredible. Everyone there is so incredibly kind and attentive (even though we couldn't speak Japanese, they used a little translator to help us as much as possible). Splurged on the room with a private outdoor bath and that was worth every penny! The view was incredible and you get to soak at any time without having to split into opposite genders. But it's nice to have access to the big ones too which have indoor and outdoor options. Food was 5 courses each with so many different components that are seasonal. Was so stuffed from the night before I couldn't eat all of breakfast! Room was traditional Japanese which was gorgeous, and hearing the waterfall outside was an incredible way to fall asleep. Shuttle made it easy to get to and from the station, though be aware! It leaves RIGHT on the dot, so arrive at the meet up point early! We had no problem doing so, coming all the way from Tokyo that morning on a shikansen and even enjoying lunch and sightseeing at the nearby Kyoto. It's located perfectly between Kyoto and Osaka making for great travel, but really you're there to...
