Our decision to stay in this quaint and beautiful ryokan is one of the best yet for our Kyushu trip! We have just concluded a 2N stay here, wishing we could have more time in Kyotoya
This ryokan has a rich heritage with collection of exquisite displays and a working Reginaphone dating back to 1910 that plays vintage vinyl records and melodious musical box tunes.
Hotel guests can help themselves with freshly brewed ice green tea and gourmet coffee at the welcoming lounge. Complimentary parking is also available on site for hotel guests.
Our room (8 tatami mats with attached bathroom) was exactly what we envisioned; traditional Japanese ryokan room that is clean, fully equipped and functional albeit a slightly slower wifi speed. Grateful for the view and natural light our room was blessed with!
We love that we could access the onsen even at late hours after returning from a long day of itinerary. The kind staff would always warmly welcome us whenever we return.
At this moment of writing while sipping gourmet coffee at the lounge, we are still enjoying the beautiful jazz music playing in the background.
Finally, we are extremely puzzled with the underwhelming/ negative reviews; because it is impossible to not love this ryokan!
Thank you for a wonderful stay and we are sincerely hoping to return someday!...
I am a person who stayed at this ryokan in early April and was in the women’s public bath when an unfamiliar man intruded and caused harm. Fortunately, I was with my group; if I had been alone, I shudder to think what might have happened. When I screamed in surprise, the perpetrator did not leave but instead came closer to see if anyone else was behind me. I shouted again that this was the women’s bath, but even after going outside, the man repeatedly peered through the door gap into the women’s bath. I still cannot forget the look in his eyes. I couldn’t sleep until dawn, trembling and crying, while giving a statement with the police. The next day, a relative of the perpetrator came and apologized. Since I had to return home soon, I left without receiving any information about what legal actions had been taken against the perpetrator. I heard from the investigating officer that the man claimed to have been drunk, but I was right in front of him and did not smell any alcohol at all. When the perpetrator’s relative came to apologize, I asked about the results of the alcohol test, but was told the analysis was still ongoing. (Is that even possible? The breathalyzer shows results immediately.) Afterwards, I inquired about the perpetrator’s legal status via the email address on the ryokan owner’s business card, but it has been over a month and I have yet to receive any reply. Are foreign guests like me simply ignored, with the assumption that we will never come back? I submitted all my information, including my passport, to the police, stayed up until dawn making the statement, and even gave my fingerprint. As a foreigner, my options for contacting Saga police were very limited, and since the report was made through the ryokan staff, they should also know what legal action was taken against the perpetrator. I am deeply disappointed by the ryokan owner’s handling of this situation. Afterwards, I was afraid to even go to public restrooms alone, worried someone might be hiding there. It was my first time visiting Saga, and through this ryokan, I painfully learned how poor the safety situation here is. I want to warn anyone planning to visit this place to be aware that such an incident...
Read moreWe stayed here in order to go to Arita for the ceramics. Such a beautiful room! Traditional Japanese style with tatami mats, sliding doors etc. The Onsen style bathroom is also beautiful. Yukata & room Slippers provided (Don't take the toilet slippers anywhere but the toilet). The breakfast was interesting and plentiful though there were a few components we couldn't recognise. The in-house onsen was traditional with fully nude bathing & gender separated; and was open all night(!) The staff are very helpful, and gave us a lift to the station once we'd checked out (in their classic car - the same one seen in their profile picture on booking.com)||||Only slight downside was that this was our first time sleeping on futons so found them/the floor a bit hard. Be aware that the pillows are double sided! (one side like bean bag & 1 soft side). Also the surrounding area is...
