The owner is so kind! He helped us around the island the whole week. Iriomote is a very special and unique place to stay. There a no streetlights or ATM's and when it gets dark it's not safe to drive around by yourself. The owner helped us for a restaurant for diner every night and drove us there himself. We rented bikes with him and he helped us to rent a car so we could drive around the island (one road). The garden of the pension is very beautifull and tropical. Every morning we got a breakfast with homemade guave jam from the garden. The rooms are OK. We had single beds (no double) and for the bathroom we had to walk outside to the other side of the hallway. And mind you: it is a tropical island, so you will see loads of tropical bugs/spiders/animals. There was a shuttle servive to the hotel. Communication is a bit difficult so make sure you have a translate app on your phone. There is a beautifull beach very close by. Make sure you bring some drinks and snacks because there is no store close to the hotel (there are small stores on the island). Taking hot showers was only posible between setted times (we don't know...
Read moreMatasaka-san, our host, was amazing. The pension was tastefully decorated, he accommodated our vegetarian diet for breakfast which was slightly different each day, he took care of making dinner reservations at nearby restaurants as well as day trip reservations.
There is a nearby beach with beautiful sunsets, and more beaches within walking distance. At night you hear cicadas, frogs and other jungle animals, and during the day the garden and lunge room are perfect for resting or reading.
For a 4 days stay for a couple it's perfect. No need for a car and he has 2 bikes available for rent.
I would visit again, I have never been to a place where the host took so much care in everything and had so many...
Read moreGreat location |The pension is a 4 minute walk from one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. And what’s more it was almost entirely empty for most of the time we were there. |The rooms in the pension are basic but quite comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent. We didn’t have an evening meal there but Ito san, the owner, recommended several local places and made reservations. He even drove us to one restaurant which was a longer walk as he didn’t want us to walk on the road in case we met a Habu snake! This restaurant, Hatsue was particularly excellent. |There is a nice little garden and a lounge area. It would have been nice if there could have been tea/coffee making facilities and...
