Tohenboku — Restaurant in Taketomi

This restaurant is very near to Urauchi bus station and is run by an old lady. You really have to reserve plenty of time to get the lady to prepare. I was rushing in from Urauchi river today hoping to get a quick octopus soba before getting on the bus an hour later back to port.

Once the lady knew that I do not speak Japanese and was only an hour long to dine in, she said everything was sold out even though it was only half an hour ago the restaurant opened.

So reserve plenty of time and learn some Japanese if you want to try...

A place arrested in time, with grand mother cooking in the kitchen. The house has forgotten about the passage of time and suck passerby in to travel back in decades. Long live the old lady and give her the utmost peace and respect for her well...

Run by a super nice elderly couple, the place is a super comfortable restaurant. For lunch I had squid in squid ink soba soup, super tasty. And make sure to try their sweet potato hand pie! It's delicious, might even be worth stopping by here...
