Iriomote Coconut Village — Hotel in Taketomi

Recently stayed here for a couple of nights with my partner. Stayed here based on the good reviews already on this site, but figured a review in English may be helpful as well!||||The room we had was small and basic, but importantly clean and with an unbelievable view! We were out most of the day and only really went back to the room to sleep so the size was no problem. Beds were comfortable and the air conditioning a welcome relief!||||We decided due to lack of transportation we would eat at the restaurant here. Breakfast was 1000円 and dinner 1,500円. All I can say is wow, the food really was amazing. A well balanced beautifully home cooked selection of food. See the pictures for what I mean. At 1,500円 it really was a bargain.||||The restaurant itself is more like their home kitchen with some tables and chairs. It had a really nice feel as the owning family would come down to eat with their children and would be happy to chat and help if they could.||||Would...

Based on other reviews, we expected no-frills but decent accommodation. The hotel looks as if it has fallen into disrepair. There was a considerable amount of rubbish (beer bottles, etc) around the hotel including on the beach. We later learned that some of the rubbish on the beach had probably been washed up there by the tide and had originated in China, South Korea or Taiwan. While the staff were friendly and helpful (they drove us to an excursion meeting point one morning, and to the local port another), when we arrived in the evening our room didn't have any bed sheets (for the fouton). Once we raised it with the staff, they reacted and brought the sheets and made the beds, but the sheets smelled of fried food since they had been stored in the kitchen. We didn't have a car on the island so it would have been good to be closer to some amenities / attractions than this hotel. ||Overall not a good experience.
