We had a good, quiet night on the top floor room so I was really grateful for that before a long hike (the other guests on the first floor didn't as they were close to the kitchen). The bathroom was spotless. Dinner and breakfast were truly enjoyable. However, there were a few odd, uncomfortable moments with the host. For example, we had requested lunch in our previous communications so we expected bento boxes the next day. The host said he asked us the previous night but we have no recollection of that. We left with a few expensive snacks instead of proper lunch for a 17km hike! Not nice at all. The other guests (also 2 women so maybe he got us confused) reported that they were asked, said yes, but the host refused...odd. Read moreI stayed for a night during my Kumano Kodo hike. I reached here after a particular difficult hike in the freezing rain as the sun was setting. I had such a warm reception with great hospitality, food and conversation. The big shower and the comfy duvet totally rejuvenated me for the next day of activity. The family were very kind, made us feel at home and put on an excellent bbq dinner.
