There's really nothing else that needs to be said about the place. ||||Last year I found myself grabbing a last minute trip to Japan and needed a place to stay. I wanted something convenient that was easy to get to and didn't involve too many transfers on the train. This place seemed to fit the bill. The price was reasonable, the location was okay and it was literally above Magome station so what's not to like?||||I booked, got the room and counted down the days until I was there.||||Finally after landing I breezed through Haneda and made my way here. It was about 4:30 when I showed up, got the room and unfortunately it was smoking. Not much I can do but I will admit the room stank of it. I've worked in Japanese office buildings and a lot of them still have smoking lounges. There's usually an air purifier in there but the smoke just seeps into everything. This room was no exception. ||||I get that Japan is still a place where smoking is just about everywhere. A suggestion is to start enforcing no smoking rules and having more non-smoking rooms. But can't do anything about that now.||||The room is small. There's no denying that. You're not going to be able to have a party and more than two people in there at any time is going to be too much. But I wasn't expecting something large so I wasn't surprised. It's very much your standard Japanese hotel room.||||The bathroom was interesting in that a lot of it is molded from one piece of plastic. There is a drain on the floor as it's a Japanese soaking tub so you wash yourself outside before getting into the hot bath to soak. While this is very comforting especially when you've been walking around all day, it's rather cramped in there. A 182cm gaijin will find the tub a little snug. Again, you can't do anything about it but it's worth a mention.||||WiFi was free and available and there was a port open for an ethernet cable in case you needed it. ||||There is a Sunkus convenience store on the other side of the street. It's a good place to pick up a bento, snack or beer as you head back to the hotel. Beyond that, not much...
Read moreIt's clean, as everything in Japan. Rooms are small but you can get even smaller in other hotels. Location is quite good: the hotel is steps away from subway entrance and it's 10-15 minutes pretty much everywhere downtown. The metro (Asakusa) line has a direct link to NRT by local train (1430 yen), save yourself some money, hop on a train there (make 1 interchange), and forget Narita Express (~3,500 yen) - for train schedule Google the route. Staff are friendly but do not expect fluency in English, just the basics, for this is no Ritz. ||||BIG PLUS: the little restaurant in the same building is cheap and GOOD, never tried their breakfast though (the main menu is A+ for meat lovers).||MINUS: unless you're a smoker, do NOT agree on a smoking root, the smell was bad and the ventilation brought in more smoke from the next room. The walls are also quite thin, I could distinctly hear a neighbor snore. Same for the kids next door, not that it bothered me too much.||||OVERALL: not a bad pick at all, for the budget-conscious traveler. If you're hoping to save on food, a grocery store is across the road. There's a kettle in the room, so making tea/coffee is not an issue. Would not hesitate to bool there again, just not a smoking room...
Read moreA very spartan experience with less than normal facilities, but cheap and close to Tokyo central and Haneda
PROS cheap, very close to Magome station, convenience stores nearby, wifi good, toilet/room clean, hotel staff kind and polite
CONS room very small badly designed with little usable horizontal surfaces for writing etc, no room storage, very old, furniture battered, paint/wallpaper peeling, fridge small and opens wrong way making it difficult to use. Early morning very noisy [unexplained], probably lack of good acoustic isolation between rooms, bed uncomfortable, pillow lumpy, restaurant does not post menu/prices outside [a normal practice in japan ]making difficult to review before entry. No umbrellas in foyer for rainy days, no coffee, no microwave, and the usual annoyance of having to check-in with reception coming and going
