This is a traditional, old but quite well maintained local ryokan. It seems to be suitable for families with kids or elderly. There is free parking at the front.
The lobby is quite new and pleasant to sit in, with a little corner of comic books/box of toys for the young kids, a free coffee area (the coffee was smooth and delicious), and a sitting area.
A lift takes you up to your room, I was happy with the size of the quadruple room. It is clean and comfortable. There is no view of which to speak, but that’s okay. The mattresses were thick and soft (less like futons and more like actual mattresses on the floor, and the duvets were made of down. I had a very comfortable night.
Considering the low price, my expectations for food at this place were very low. I was very hungry when I went into dinner, and came out completely full and satisfied. The portions were large and plentiful, and even if they didn’t use expensive ingredients, you could see that the cheap ones still tasted good and were handled with a lot of care. The beef sukiyaki was delicious.
I felt very happy eating this meal. Breakfast was also very good, I enjoyed the eating the local tofu in soy milk with a hit of umami from miso sauce.
For the onsens: I did not manage to try the teacup ones, though they seem to be highly rated. The public bath was enough for me. The indoor bath does look a little old and the tiles in front of it are stained, which gives it a bit of a dirty appearance. The outdoor Onsen is completely enclosed so there is no view unless you peek between the bamboo coverings. The hot water does not run continuously, but comes out sporadically, perhaps as the temperature drops. You do get that squeaky Ureshino water feel when you rub your skin. The amenities in the bathroom are very comprehensive, with face lotion/milk/horse oil cream provided.
All in all I felt very happy with the cost performance of this stay. If I am in Ureshino again I would like...
Read moreAfter booking the hotel, I was hesitant and worried that it would be bad. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the hotel! Everything is better than expected ^^Small but beautiful! The front desk staff are friendly and attentive. There was a young man from China at the front desk who gave a detailed introduction to the hotel facilities, dinner reservation times and some sightseeing suggestions in Chinese. On Chinese New Year's Eve, I met a Japanese lady at the hotel front desk (who spoke very fluent English) who gave guests free drinks to celebrate the New Year, which made people feel cordial and warm. There are few people in the hotel's hot springs and they are very clean. Basically every time I go, the restaurant is reserved;) Dinner is a major feature of the hotel and worth experiencing. Although the ingredients don't look amazing, they are actually carefully prepared and high-quality ingredients. The cooking method is not very flashy, which is probably the characteristic of Ureshino. I ate every meal until I couldn't finish it. The Saga beef melts in your mouth, the tiny pufferfish is extremely delicious, the crabs are sweet and plump...^^The soup tofu for breakfast is soft, glutinous and smooth in the mouth, without any beany smell, and the rich bean aroma is unforgettable. The appearance picture of the hotel on Ctrip’s official website is different from the actual one! This is actually the first photo I took of this! Much better than what is shown on the official website! Best hotel for traveling...
Read moreThe hotel is a bit far away from Ureshino Onsen JR Station. After getting off the Seagull in the morning, we looked for the information desk. The guy told us that we can take the bus for 5 stops and get off at Ureshino Onsen BUS Center Station. It only takes 5-6 minutes to walk there. It takes about 30 minutes to walk. Since the bus had just left, we decided to walk there, and the guy marked the route in detail on the map for us. Along the way, there were almost no people on the streets, and the shops were all closed. It might be the off-peak tourist season, and there were very few tourists. There was a free hot spring footbath on the roadside. The hotel is Japanese-style, and there is a waitress who is from Shanghai, China. She was very enthusiastic when meeting the fellows. She told us in detail about the hotel's facilities and reservation time for breakfast and dinner. Since it was not time to check in at the hotel, she introduced us to a small park and a handmade beef patty restaurant about 20 minutes' walk from the hotel that always had a queue. We went. The beef patty was really delicious. The small park was very quiet and had a small waterfall. The hotel is very clean and there are not many people in the hot spring pool, which is very pleasant. Fortunately, we booked breakfast + dinner, and the surrounding shops were closed at night. The hotel's breakfast and dinner are rich, Japanese food,...
