Four of us went to Astana to watch the ireland-Kazakh world cup football match. We booked with hotels.com, 2 rooms with 2 twins each for 3 nights at a set price. We showed our written order to the desk and were assigned our rooms. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the rooms each had 2 separate bedrooms. The room was good, but the bathroom had seen better days.||||On the third evening we arrived back at the hotel at 10pm and had only three hours to sleep before catching an early flight so we wanted to settle our bill that evening. We were greatly surprised when the ladies at reception presented a bill at a much higher room rate. We showed our contracted rate, but they would not be swayed. They refused to let us talk to the manager, however they occasionally made calls to consult with someone. They absolutely would not agree to the contracted rate. In desperation we requested they call the police, as we were obviously being robbed. After another consultation call they quickly agreed to our contracted rate. They did not want a visit from the police. At this point over two hours of heated discussion had elapsed, preventing us from using the room for the little sleep we had planned||||I noted during the stay that many couples checked in late. One evening i was in the 4th floor TV room and a couple emerged from the elevator and went to a nearby room. The attractive woman paused before going in and came over and offered me a "classical massage" for a stated price, which i declined. 20 minutes later they were leaving. Another reason the police were not wanted at the Lion||||During the stay I had a small bag of laundry that needed washing. I asked for a cost estimate but they acted as I they didn't understand. Leaving on a day trip, I handed over the bag. At checkout I was charged the ridiculous price of $62 for this service. As far as quality, two of my shirts emerged with purple dye stains. The checkout ladies declined to accept any responsibility. Breakfast was included in the room price, but juice and even butter for the bread was extra.||||The day before checking out, the nice old Italian gent in the room next to ours was arguing at the front desk. He said outrageous charges had been added to the bill. I think it was no coincidence. If you do not speak Russian, beware staying at the Lion as they will use every opportunity to take...
Read more😊: This place is a true gem, I’m so happy I stayed here! The interior is like stepping back in time, room is spacious, very well equipped, and beautifully decorated, good air conditioning, the bed is the most comfortable I have ever had during my many travels (!). Room and bathroom were also very clean, modern shower with quickly heating hot water. Breakfast was simple but you can choose some varieties and was plenty in quantity.. 😢: The only thing I would recommend to pay attention more is, if someone stays more days, provide additional soap, shower gel, toilet paper. I stayed for 3 nights but I only had the initial amount of these in my bathroom, as there was no daily room service to...
Read moreThe staff is very friendly and helpful. I find the place very clean and the resto serves Korean food which I liked. Breakfast was so so and oily thus this needs improvement. Also around 4 am ,two guys in the next room were talking(shouting) so loudly that they interrupted my sleep. Maybe they have to beef up security and soundproof the rooms as all corridor noise and doors opening/closing get heard. Likewise, the pillows can be changed too. Overall, my stay in Lion...
