When booking, I was a bit sceptical if a place even exists, as location location on Google was overlapping with other place (now corrected) and the photos looked too good to be true, not mentioning that it's a rare option of staying in rented homes in Talek. I've rented a home for a whole family stay during our planned 3 days safari trip to Masai Mara. We've loved the self catering option, as each house offers a kitchen. The place offers great value for money with extremely attentive staff(some of them are local Masais). They're happy to chat and provide you with information about the area, as well as local Masai culture. We liked the breakfast prepared by local cook. In the evening we had a camp fire talking until late with Benson about Masai traditions. There is also a silent disco in the evening-which I find as an interesting and funny idea. Dave the owner is very welcoming and happily accepts any constructive feedback on how to improve the place, as it's relatively new business (was built around a year ago). He is also a professional photographer, that's why the photos of the place look so great. He also tries to animate local society by organising events, like small music festivals. The kitchen is basic and requires some improvements, but it didn't influence our overall experience. If you plan self catering, I recommend bringing some supplies with you, as purchasing options in Talek are limited(especially no dairy products, I guess due to frequent power outages in the area). Please note that you're very in the tropical wild, so some mosquitoes may show in the evening(it's not so bad and you have mosquito nets on the windows and around beds) and expect some unwelcomed guests like ants or even cockroaches if you leave your food unsealed on the kitchen table. In the morning you can expect some baboons outside, who live on the trees nearby. Overall we've enjoyed the...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of staying at Olakira Mara Home for two nights to celebrate Job’s 30th birthday, and the experience exceeded all expectations. The property offers a perfect balance of comfort, tranquility, and adventure.
The evenings were truly memorable, highlighted by a delightful silent disco under the stars. The game drives were equally exceptional—well-organized, full of excitement, and provided great opportunities for photography and wildlife sightings.
The meals were excellent, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional throughout our stay, ensuring every detail was taken care of.
Olakira Mara Home is a remarkable destination for group celebrations, family retreats, or anyone seeking an authentic yet luxurious Mara experience. We left with wonderful memories and would highly recommend it to others.
Would you like me to tailor it slightly to sound like it’s coming from your photography brand’s perspective (e.g., highlighting the scenic and...
Read moreOur recent stay at Olakira Mara Homes was simply delightful! We received a very warm welcome upon our arrival by David and the staff. One thing that stood out so clearly throughout our stay was the delicious variety of food meticulously prepared by the executive chef, Willy, who personally came to our outdoor table to greet my family, during lunch at our arrival. The next morning the warm and friendly staff packed a complete breakfast and snacks to-go as we headed out for the game drive, every detail was considered. That was awesome!
In the evening we enjoyed a sumptuous buffet and Choma (lamb barbecue) followed by a bonfire, silent disco and storytelling session with Ben the Maasai guide. He told us everything we needed to know about Maasai way of life, food, clothing, medicine, traditions and culture. Ben is an awesome man very open, friendly and knowledgeable.
David is a superhost. He made sure that my family and I were comfortable and felt at home in every sense. Kudos to him and his staff!
