Happy Hotel — Hotel in Riga

We came here on a short budget break and this hotel came in under our budget, it seemed to be mainly occupied by contractors. It's situated outside the old town so we had decided to use the trams out the back of the hotel to commute in. However we could not decipher the Latvian on the tram sign so used taxis instead. We downloaded the BOLT app and found the service very cheap and quick.||We had a room on the ground floor just down from reception, it contained a double and a single bed. TV on the wall a table with 2 chairs, wardrobe and bedside tables. The mattresses where a bit on the hard side and the double bed had 2 single duvets. The ensuite had a hip bath with shower over, the water was always hot and the shower powerful. The rooms and the hotel were very clean though the front steps were starting to crumble the facade on the whole looked tidy. Outside was two undercover areas for smokers and just behind the reception/shop was a kitchenette for guests use.||The hotel staff were friendly and booked a taxi for us on the first day as we were struggling with the app. Not much English was spoken but we don't speak any Latvian so can't complain. ||Close by were 2 restaurants no more than 6 minutes walk from the hotel and a Maxima supermarket the same distance which came in handy. ||When you leave the hotel to sight see there is a basket at reception where you leave...

Pretty unique place. It's not a hotel but a hostel because the room has two capsules and the bathroom is outside, shared. Inside your capsule you get a TV but there's no plug to charge your phone inside the capsule, only an old type B slot on the TV. (Plugs are available inside room, outside capsule. Also, there is no shelf inside to put your stuff. But you close yourself inside for total privacy and the bed is big. The bathroom and shower are new and clean. No A/C but the wifi is pretty strong. Nice quiet place. Suitable for budget travellers or if you are travelling to another destination and just need an overnight stay in Riga. We stayed here 3 times already, and every time everything was on top. Friendly service, clean rooms/bathrooms. Shared kitchens on each floor, and they are equipped with everything necessary for making/warming up the food and eating.
