The worst spa experience I have ever had. I don't normally leave bad reviews, and honestly i don't want to upset any of the individual workers, as I believe this is a management issue.
I spent almost 400 euro for treat recovery day that was supposed to aid my tight painful muscles, and calm my mind after a very stressful few weeks, but I ended up in tears after this visit.
It was my first visit to the spa, and found it big, loud, dated and confusing. I arrived over an hour before treatments to enjoy the saunas, but i never got to experience them. After queuing to check in with a very friendly receptionist, i was directed towards the changing area, and told some directions to get towels in another area. The place is very big, and so when i had figured out where to get towels and changed and showered, i was tight on time. I couldn't understand the few signs and there was nobody around to ask where to go. Eventually i found a small home style womens sauna and got 10 minutes before i had to get ready for my spa treatments. I never saw the thermal areas.
Once at the spa, i was kept waiting a while, which would have been ok if i wasn't freezing. I was in my robe as advised, but it was icy December day and there seemed to be no heating in the building. I requested a hot drink to warm up and they just pointed me to the water cooler and told me no hot water available.
The therapists were kind and friendly. The body scrub was nice, despite the room being very cold. But this is where the positive experience ends. I had booked a sports massage due to painful muscles and tight neck. The lovely massage therapist was a petite older lady who despite her kind efforts, just had no strength, her hands were freezing due to lack of heating, and her skill was limited im sorry to say. I am a qualified massage therapist also, so this was evident to me. I waited 15 min at spa desk where nobody attended to me, so i went back to the entrancs desk and complained discreetly and politely. The gentleman told me he might be able to arrange another massage in a slot an hour after, and to have my facial treatment and come back to arrange details .
The facial treatment was a physical scrubbing brush that left my face burning from any products added after it. It was painful and upsetting. When i returned to the welcome desk, i was told it would be another 4 hours before a massage therapist was available for me, and that i would be fully charged for it! There was no compensation offered at all. It was a freezing cold, uncomfortable, exhausting day when i had spent a lot in hopes of a recovery. This is when i got frustrated. He sent me back to the spa desk yet again, where the manager told me that deep and sports massage in Luxembourg is not as deep in other countries! She told me most people enjoy their service. I couldn't believe this! My face was burning and I burst into tears. Upon seeing me so upset, she eventually gave me two voucher to come back to the thermal spa. I don't live in Luxembourg, and if I did I would not come back. This was really a horrible day for me.
As much as i dont like to give negative reviews, and i also don't want to offend individual therapists, I cannot allow others to have this experience without an honest review . This venue is clearly managed badly, no heat, no service training, no hot drink in cold weather, high prices, wrongly assigned therapies to under trained therapists. I spent the last few weeks with red, dry skin that i have never experienced before. I had to buy a healing balm to try sooth my skin, and its still not fully recovered....
Read moreKNOW BEFORE YOU GO! If you are on business and travelling on a CORPORATE rate - BEWARE My husband works for a Canadian company that has a large location in Dudelange. Since I was travelling with him on my first trip to Europe we decided to visit this hotel and spa. Based on the pictures shown and the amenities included it looked like it would be an amazing vacation for me. With the CORPORATE rate the spa is not included - they just said NO. If I want to attend I could pay 17 Euros per day. That's equivalent of $26.50 CAD. With the CORPORATE rate the included breakfast is NOT INCLUDED. 22 Euros or $34.20 CAD. That's an expensive breakfast. In the town of Mondorf there isn't anywhere else to go. With the CORPORATE rate we were given a shoebox. One king size bed fills the entire living space. Can't even pull the chair out to sit at the desk. I have to move it back and then to the side to slide in. The only other spaces in the room are the bathroom - which is very nice - and the foyer. No dresser, our clothes had to go on shelves in the closet. Our balcony faces a concrete wall. The HVAC system does absolutely nothing to regulate the temperature in the room so we have to have the door open constantly for coolness and air movement. The door must be open all night or sleep is impossible in the stuffy heat. The hotel is fairly empty and housekeeping staff actually showed us a room comparable to what is shown on the website. Hotel staff has made no effort at all to make the week more comfortable There is no ice available for our rooms. I had to ask for a glass of ice and front desk staff went behind the bar to get me 4 cubes in a glass. I am not comfortable doing that several times a day! No coffee provided in the room either. Just a small kettle and a few tea bags. If you want to fill your water bottle you need to walk all the way to the spa to find a fountain. The cold water in the bathroom faucets isn't really cold. On a positive note, the hotel is clean, our male housekeeper is friendly and our room is completely made up during the time I was at breakfast. Unfortunately we won't be back and will be communicating this disappointment with other staff. The big North American brand hotels know how to keep their clients...
Read moreSummary: this hotel is very enjoyable but vastly overpriced
Detailed review: the best feature of this hotel is that it gives direct access (without having to go outside) to the Spa/Welness/Fitness (which is by the way also publicly accessible to people that don't stay in the hotel).
The hotel is old but all areas and the rooms look recently renovated (I am guessing around 2018'ish).
Rooms are rather basic but nice. The single beds in the twin executive room are big (1m20) and comfortable. One of the matresses had a hole in the middle though and was up for replacement. Bed covers were too hot for the temperature of the room/building (we were there in March).
Our bathroom tap was not working properly. Cold water was not coming through (probably the tube is blocked because of old age), so it came out alsmost only hot water which seems to burn your hands.
Room offers 0,5 liter of free bottled water (glass bottle). Given it is a Spa-hotel, and given the room rate (more about that later) I would expect at least one bottle per guest.
Room offers towels and bath robes to go to the spa.
Breakfast employees are very friendly. Breakfast had good quality ingredients (ham, cheese, bread, salmon, ...) but the offer of fresh fruit is lacking. There is fresh orange juice though and you can make smoothies yourself. They also make fresh omelettes on the spot. Quality of the coffee is ok.
Spa is very nice, but I will write a review about that in a seperate post.
Parking is outside (security seems to be lacking though) but included in the room rate.
Surrounding of the hotel (park) is very nice and very well maintained.
Overall this hotel is very enjoyable but too expensive. Base rate (for room with double bed) is 319€ and the twin room is 349€. Breakfast and spa/fitness access is included, but still it feels more like a...
