Our church group of about 60 pax just ended our church camp from 24 - 27 Nov 2023 at Amerald Resort Hotel.
The rooms were spacious and generally pleasant, however some areas of the superior / deluxe king & twin rooms & grand deluxe rooms definitely needed some refurbishing (e.g. toilet aesthetic & parts, aircon issues, mini fridge issues, dirty looking sofa bed outer fabric etc...).
Trust me, the current wifi connection is beyond terrible throughout all the rooms across all levels and almost every location in the resort. Our church group members and myself have tried and tested every area in the resort and the best wifi location is only at the front desk area as well as the Sapphire 1 Function Hall (Sapphire 1 Function Hall has a separate wifi router to connect your device for wifi - speed is above average)
Only 1 room access card is given to 2, 3, 4 or even 5 occupants in a room. Such a protocol from Amerald Resort Hotel is absolutely uncomprehensible and unacceptable.
Surprisingly, our church group felt that the food served during our tea breaks at the Sapphire 2 Function Hall was even better than the dishes served at the Ruby Coffee House. (If you are entitled to tea breaks in your function hall, please ask for Tom Yum Fried Rice*, Kuay Teow, Samosa, Curry Puff)
Food wise in general at the Ruby Coffee House is average, nothing fantastic (some days if lucky there will be 1 or 2 dishes that taste better than average)
To the GM of Amerald Resort Hotel, please settle these issues immediately:
The flies issue at the Ruby Coffee House by putting some sort of cover to protect the food, fruits and condiments that are put out on the serving platforms from numerous flies)
The current beyond terrible wifi connection throughout almost the entire Amerald Resort Hotel, especially in our individual rooms!
Despite all of the above complaints and not so positive feedbacks given to Amerald Resort Hotel, myself and many of my church group members would like to compliment Fatin Nor Suhaina (Sales & Marketing Executive) for being an amazing and excellent coordinator who liaises cordially with me and interacted cordially onsite with me and my church members. Fatin is efficient at making arrangments to meet our small / big / special requests of all sorts before and during our church camp.
I hope that Fatin's direct boss and the GM of Amerald Resort Hotel recognise Fatin's capabilities, efforts and potential, for she is surely a huge asset to the organisation! 🤩
Fatin, I hope you receive your promotion at Amerald Resort Hotel soon, all...
Read moreI recently stayed at Amerald Resort Hotel Desaru and wanted to share my experience, which unfortunately was not entirely satisfactory. While the room itself was decent, I found it to be a bit overpriced considering the amenities provided. One positive aspect was the seaview, which added some value to the overall experience. However, there were a few significant drawbacks that need to be highlighted.
Firstly, the WiFi service was extremely poor. It was frustrating to deal with slow and unreliable internet connectivity throughout my stay. This was particularly inconvenient, especially considering the modern expectations of seamless connectivity for both personal and business purposes.
Furthermore, the hotel's location was quite far from the city area, making it less convenient for those who prefer to explore the city's attractions or have easy access to amenities. The distance and lack of nearby facilities should be taken into consideration when choosing this hotel.
The most concerning aspect of my stay, however, was the presence of rust-colored stains on the bed sheets and sofa. Initially, I assumed they were simple stains that had not been properly addressed. Unfortunately, my partner and I discovered bedbug bite marks on our bodies on the day of our check-out. This raised serious concerns about the cleanliness and maintenance standards of the hotel.
Upon reporting the issue to the hotel's front office manager via email, we received a dismissive response. The manager insisted that the bite marks were from sandflies rather than bedbugs and claimed that no previous complaints had been made regarding bedbugs. However, this contradicted recent reviews we had come across that also highlighted bedbug problems. Feeling disappointed and frustrated by the manager's response, we intend to escalate our complaint to the government institute of health for further investigation.
Overall, while the room itself was acceptable and the seaview was enjoyable, the hotel's poor WiFi service, distant location, and most importantly, the presence of rust-colored stains and subsequent bedbug bites left a lasting negative impression. I hope that this review serves as a cautionary note to both the hotel management and future guests, urging them to address these issues promptly and ensure a more pleasant and...
Read moreOK main problem with the hotel is that it's severely understaffed. I came here on a random Tuesday and there were only a handful of rooms booked yet there were no bellboy to help us with our bags. We had to push the trolley to our room and the room service removed it the next day.
Food - great service as we were the only people in the whole breakfast cafe. Breakfast starts at 7am until 10.30am. Good selection and food was prepared by the chef on the spot (rice breakfast , American breakfast or pancakes) with a few buffet options (dessert, porridge, fruits, juices and coffee). I think the Ala carte menu is only available at non peak times.
Amenities - in the room, great. There were even bathrobes provided. I encourage upgrading to a seaview room. Didn't try other amenities in the hotel as the pool was right in front of the reception - didn't feel comfortable having the staff stare at me.
Location - this hotel was built in 2017 and on the other end of Desaru. There is nothing much around or near the hotel. The town center is a 10-15 drive away. Grab or a taxi may be difficult to find if you don't have a car. It's very remote and dark at night driving here. However, there is a nice small roadside seafood restaurant just at the entrance of the hotel if you need to get dinner but they only open at 4pm.
Beach - it's a private beach that isn't busy and is far from any public area so it's very private but I must say, I am disappointed with its cleanliness and the "seats" on the beach. There's a few tables that were dilapidated and falling apart. There looks to be some sort of black sewage that runs into the sea right next to the hotel beach so the beach has like a black sludge and brown foam. Definitely don't recommend going for a swim here. There's a beautiful swing in the sea but it's so high, it can only be accessible at hightide while you're in the water. If you want to a nice place to go to get photos and a swim, I recommend going to the public Desaru beach. They charge RM8 for parking and the shops and restaurants are open everyday except...
