I know this is a budget place & expectations have to be adjusted but the overall experience still leaves much to be desired
TLDR: this hotel is suitable for those who've arrived after a red eyed flight & just looking for a place to crash for a couple of hours before checking in to another hotel the following day. Overall if you're planning to stay in Malaysia for more than 1 night then I would advise you to get a slightly better standard hotel for the sake of your beauty sleep. only then will you have enough energy in the day to fully explore what Malaysia has to offer!
Booked via Agoda app & upon arrival was told by the counter staff that my room wasn't available due to a broken Aircon unit. WHY WASN'T THIS COMMUNICATED TO ME EARLIER PRIOR TO MY ARRIVAL?? staff offered to assist me in transferring to another room at their other branch at setia tropika which according to him is "just nearby, down the road." only on my way there did I realise that it's ACTUALLY 14KM AWAY IN ANOTHER DISTRICT. Totally ruined my travel plans
Anyhow at OYO setia tropika, Don't let Agoda pictures fool you 😂, room wise the walls were dirty, bedsheets/towel/blanket had small brown stains, saw a couple of bugs at night. TV is purely for show with no signal input to display channels. Toilet space is slightly more than the size of a single bed. Fixed shower head unit in between the toilet bowl & the sink making it Extremely difficult to bathe. Toilet mirror had stains as well. Some aircon thermostat wiring is exposed & just literally duct taped onto the wall
Service wise I requested counter staff for housekeeping to make my room after the 1st night & she acknowledged twice however when I returned later at night, nothing was done at all. It seems like the staff here have no accountability for their work.
I guess I'm counted as the luckier few as other reviewers on Agoda have experienced the lack of hot water, broken door lock, bedbugs/cockroaches, & even Aircon churning...
Read moreBooked this hotel last minute through OYO app. Was easy and they had the room that I wanted. Price was ok, RM78 for 3 person which was affordable & reasonable.
Reached the hotel during midnight, and when we arrived at the door, we had to wait around 5-8 minutes cause no one was responding to our rings of the door bell. We then proceeded to call number provided. Finally after calling the number, the receptionist picked up the call and unlocked the entrance door.
First impression of the receptionist, not so good. It was obvious he was sleeping, and we "woke" him up. So the whole process of checking us in, you can tell he wasn't in the best mood. We wanted to be understanding so we didn't say much to him. We just let him do what he needs to do to check us in. However, do take note, if you are checking in midnight, you cannot use bank in/transfer or card .. They only accept Cash. Luckily the 3 of us have some cash on us.
After checking in, we were then given the room that we booked. First thing that hit us when we went into the room, was the strong smell of cigarette smoke. Which was quite unpleasant for the first few minutes but then after that it was fine.
The room is considered good. However, I didn't like the fact that they don't use pillow case for their pillows. Felt a bit unhygienic. It was also a little stained, so I had to use a t shirt to cover it to feel more clean. Bed was OK. Not too bad, can't complain much since its a budget hotel.
As for the toilet, they don't provide shampoo. Just a bottle of body shampoo, which I assume is 3 in 1. So I would suggest bringing your own toiletries.
Overall, the stay is good. Can't complain much for the price we pay. But they can improve on those few things.
PROS : This hotel have a lot of eatery place surrounding it and there's a lot of convenience store downstairs. So you don't need to worry if you forgot to...
